Removing Irish Linen
To remove Irish Linen, I just put the cue in the lathe loosely between centers (not so loose that the cue falls out but loose enough that you can easily spin the cue by hand).

The reason the search function did not reveal any results is probably that most of us established cuemakers agree with you that the dark line which would be evident negates the value of adding the ring at that location.

You should have determined what was wrong with the cue BEFORE you started working on it. In my opinion, now that you have worked on it you are responsible for it not the original maker. Working on this cue was a lose/lose situation and the work should have been refused. Your reputation is a...
You should be concerned with whether it is right to copy someone else' design. If you like the design so much you should buy a cue from the maker or at least get his permission to use his creation. But Hell, what do I know -- I'm just a grouchy old man.
