Help with thoughts on the price range that you might charge for this 8 Point (Thuya Burl, into Ebony) cue, if you were to build something similar?

You’re right. It can vary. Which is why I said a few grand to the skies the limit. I don’t think his question was egregious at all or in any violation of the imaginary rights this forum has to gatekeep individual cue makers pricing. He’s just trying to get an idea. We should definitely...

I’d have to see in person and put a dial indicator on it but that doesn’t look to be terribly warped. Up to you on what you want to invest but it seems like that would be fine to refinish. Whoever does the refinish can certainly advise you before proceeding.

That was 16 years ago. Not saying it doesn’t apply but gauging overall market price isn’t the same as directly asking a cue maker to publicly post a quote.

You're probably looking at a few grand to the sky's the limit depending on the cue maker. I imagine you could find a number of cue makers who can make something similar in the 3k range. I would not refinish a "fairly straight" cue unless you're just in love with it. That is unless its just a...

Guys ducking when it’s time to pay is becoming a thing around here.

Selective weirdness is a you thing. This world is too short and too big to be petty over a piece of wood.

This guy is not a “good friend”.

No. If he’s a good friend there’s not much in the way of what’s okay to ask for. It’s a piece of wood. Not your wife. You’re just a callous person.

Fred “Scooter” Goodman is a thief. Here’s how he stole from me:

It’s extremely rare for me to lend money. If someone is in a bind I give them the money. That way there is no expectation that they’ll pay it back and the relationship isn’t strained if they don’t. In all my years I’ve rarely had a friend or family member come back to “tap the well”. Most...

I can understand why you value a cue over a friendship. It’s who you are. I lend tools to people all the time. Most of the people I encounter are good people. Of course there’s a small handful of people I wouldn’t lend a garden hose to. I wouldn’t consider them to be good friends though.

So not a good friend. If you won’t lend a good friend something then he was never a good friend. I lend stuff to my “good friends” all the time. Other people not so much.

    Stainless joint collars

To me it was easier to trim down a joint collar to a forearm than to try and nail a perfect diameter finish to a predetermined joint collar size. I’m sure some guys have finishing down to a perfect set of predicable layers. I don’t. I’ll reapply layers and scuff until I see what I’m looking...

    Stainless joint collars

I’ll defer to others as I haven’t done many of these but I used thicker material rather than a thin collar. Then just used a metal lathe to trim the stainless down to size.
