What would you say if someone had told you that a covered ball was obvious?

No he didn’t call the pocket. Initially he called “10 ball” to which I asked where? He told that I should have known that he was going for the corner pocket. I told him “No - Not with the 15 partially covering the 10 ball. I guess that we need an explanation of what is obvious.

Is the intent obvious? Yes Is the 15 ball first contact? Yes You could have whiffed and the hit four corners. If the 10 drops then it’s a good shot. Not calling the 15-10 combo leads me to stop and ask the question. Delays the match but it’s good.

True this! First reasonable explanation for this. Out of courtesy, please tell me what you’re doing, and leave me to interpret your actions. I’d rather keep the game moving! 👏👏👏🏆

I got it! 😋 It’s the interpretation and not the rule. You’re telling me that you don’t need to call combos. I get it!

OK - No argument here. You have the last word as you’re citing that rule.

I’ve already cited the WPA rule. Furthermore, BCA rule 4.2 cites the following: “Bank shots and combination shots are not considered obvious, and care should be taken in calling both the object ball and the intended pocket.” What rule are you citing? Forget about opinions and cite me a WPA/BCA...

Wrong - Stick with the WPA definition of called shot.

WPA 8 Ball Rule 1.7 STANDARD CALL SHOT In Disciplines in which the shooter is required to call shots, the intended ball and pocket must be indicated for each shot if they are not obvious. Details of the shot, such as cushions struck or other balls contacted or pocketed are irrelevant. Only...

Now I have to look at the rules.

This is where I draw the line. I’ve the same guy hit one of my balls first, and claim that the shot was good. The shot was GOOD. I’m saying that some people don’t care about clarity.

You’re correct. Question: When do you “need” to call a combo?

Any questionable shot, out of conscience, I call it out to myself. If I see one, I ask for clarification. Please don’t get upset with getting up to see if you’re locked up.

Please be specific to combinations.I understand that you take what you make. If you were jumping a ball, would you call that shot. Come on…
