    Pool returns to ESPN….

My thoughts: 1) It's kind of a bummer that ANY form of pool is considered "Ocho" material. 2) It's kind of cool that ANY form of pool is back on ESPN. ESPN may indeed be losing relevance and on its way out, but maybe not....it's still a Disney property that has a big piece of every major pro...

WCBS Multi-discipline Championships, Ankara, July 2023

It's basically 8-ball played on a snooker table. There are other rule differences between 8-ball and heyball around called shots and fouls but I can't remember them off the top of my head and they don't seem to fundamentally change anything.

Is there such a thing as a national bar box championship anymore?

I saw the VNEA national championships a couple weeks ago and they all looked like bar tables. Is that about it these days?

2023 World Cup of Pool (WCOP) 27June-2July, Spain (Winner $60K per team)

So as you've seen from these responses, the answer is: Serena maybe, (in what sport is the greatest of all time NOT hotly debated? Maybe ice hockey), Venus definitely not. She had the misfortune of still being in her prime when her sister entered hers. Interestingly however, Serena retired...

2023 World Cup of Pool (WCOP) 27June-2July, Spain (Winner $60K per team)

Good move: making Spain and Spain B an early-round matchup provided they beat their first round opponents. Horrible move: Spain vs. Philippines in Round 1. Tomorrow's matches: 1PM local/7AM Eastern US: Spain-Philippines Greece-Singapore Myanmar (Burma)-Canada 7PM local/1PM Eastern US: Great...

    Cue sports strengths by country

So I'm trying to dabble as much as I can as a spectator in all of the cue sports that are popular in multiple continents. Broadly speaking, that means, to me: pool, snooker and caroms. (I know pyramid is popular in Russia and countries with a strong Russian influence, but not really anywhere...

Spanish Open, June 2023, from Matchroom

I agree that players shouldn't feel the need to apologize for golden breaks, but it might be worth noting that holes-in-one are many orders of magnitude more rare than golden breaks. Additionally, pool is usually 1-v-1 while professional golf is usually not, which I think makes sportsmanship...

Poland seems underrated too. Will be betting Philippines, China, Poland, and a tiny bit on Peru and Myanmar.

Speaking of cinderella runs, who are some names in the final 64 that aren't too familiar with the veteran AZBians reading this? Or if you really know your stuff, who are the potential cinderellas even if you are familiar with them?

Chinese Pool International Professional League International Elite Tournament, Jun 16-24.

I'm still trying to figure out how I feel handicaps - I find Skostokig's thoughts on them persuasive - but I doubt I will ever be hugely bothered by them. That said, before this thread, I was only familiar with handicaps where one player had to win one (or more) fewer games to win the match. A...

Chinese Pool International Professional League International Elite Tournament, Jun 16-24.

Do you mean the handicaps are inaccurate? Or do you mean you're against female players getting handicaps on principle? If the latter, how do you feel about handicapped games based on Fargo Rate?

Spanish Open, June 2023, from Matchroom

I wondered why there were so many use the force/darkside references in the chat for this match.

Chinese Pool International Professional League International Elite Tournament, Jun 16-24.

Someone mentioned in the Bucharest Open thread how Alex Pagulayan is playing in a tournament in China rather than the Spanish Open, which sent me down a rabbit hole. I kinda like it when more than one high-level tournament is happening at the same time. The tournament is the "International...

    Heyball?

Bump. I guess the differences in heyball vs. (American) 8-ball vs. blackball ruleswise (I know the tables/pockets/balls are not uniform) is mostly in what is a foul and how that foul is adjudicated?

Matchroom WNT nineball ranking event Bucharest Open (16-18 June), Winner 5000 Euros

Yeah same here, with few exceptions, I root for Americans first, underdogs second.
