Spanish Open, June 2023, from Matchroom

I think Moritz Neuhausen is worth keeping an eye on. He's just 19, carries a Fargo Rate of 778 which, based on Fargo, makes him the 94th best player in the world. Ralf Souquet introduced him to me during the 2021 US Open 9-ball, and even then, you could see what a mature young man Mortiz is.

I've gotten to know Mortiz a little better since, and given his natural talent, commitment to mastering all aspects of the game, thirst for learning, and appreciation for just how long the journey to excellence is, I wouldn't bet against him being an elite player sooner rather than later.

Filler and Neuhausen figure to be a very tough team at the upcoming World Cup of Pool.

He came to some spots in my state before the Michigan Open. I don’t know of any shenanigans but he was willing to entertain all comers. That was the first time I learned of him. Kinda like when people first knew of SVB as “Deaf Jam”. It didn’t take long for people to realize he was the real deal. And I love those stories. I really hope Kash can have a similar story. I’d love to see those two become rivals in this sport in all the best ways.

Two words: Derby City.
Yeah, but the final matches of the day so far have been over by what, about 8:30 local time? Pushing the starting times back 2 or 3 hours would still have had the matches ending well before midnight, and you wouldn't be having those ridiculous early morning starts.

... ridiculous early morning starts.
10AM? I think that shouldn't be a problem. I don't think there are many players matching up and playing all night. Maybe the timing is partly out of consideration of the staff.

I love it when the bracket isn’t lopsided. That means when a non-blockbuster player breaks through it is a true Cinderella run and not just a weak shuffle of the deck.
Speaking of cinderella runs, who are some names in the final 64 that aren't too familiar with the veteran AZBians reading this? Or if you really know your stuff, who are the potential cinderellas even if you are familiar with them?

I believe it is all planned to fit to TV time spots they get from TV channels. There is so much stuff happening in production here that are never in other tourneys. Everything is organized and running smooth. You can also eat on restaurant on venue or go to city between matches if you like(15 min walk, taxi not faster). All match have time so you dont need to hang in venue if you prefer to get out. I love how this is done. Players can chill and go watch countrymates matches close. Or they can go practice on 4 practice tables on side. Everyone have good time here.

Too bad I lost my yesterday match on hill hill. I was playing bad and 6-2 down but then opponent miss easy 9ball and i went 7-6 ahead but last 2 games got brutal rolls(but also chances) and lost. I was happy i did not give up but fight to end even my stroke was feeling pretty bad on morning game.

kledio kaci is one. quite remarkable what he's done in this event.

moritz neuhausen is another and he will be tough for a struggling albin.

riku romppanen is in the same group, a kid that doesn't seem to have got the info that the pockets are tough.

then there are more established players whose advancement shouldn't be that shocking, but still are far from favorites in their "group", such as konrad, hoang, pijus and dang jinhu.

while i admire wu and his insane comeback, king kong break and bnr:ing as in olden days... i feel so sorry for DD. he had the match!
