Yes, the gaboon is just sealed and the Macassar is more brown than black. With sealer the macassar gets darker but not black.

Macassar ebony on the left, Gaboon ebony on the right.

The blak cues are listed as ebony but like i said a little 'blackener' being added is not unlikely.

I’d also be surprised if the predator your friend has is real ebony. Predator has painted a lot of cues.
