    Using the breath during stroke

Do you mean hold your breath at the halfway point or just take the shot at the midway point of a continuous exhale?

    In the rack, or not?

The outline of the rack refers to the line drawn on the felt around the outside of whatever triangle rack that's used at that table. That's because people use that rack to rack the remaining 14 balls while the 15th ball and cue ball remain in place. So the line is supposed to eliminate any...

    In the rack, or not?

The outline of the rack refers to the line drawn on the felt around the rack - that line is used to determine which balls are "in the rack". My question was answered, if thr ball touches the line then it's in the rack.

    In the rack, or not?

Hey quick question - if a ball is touching the rack line, is it considered in the rack? Or does the edge of the ball have to be over the line? (By touching the line I mean interfereing with your view of the line from directly above the line, and by over the line I mean interfereing with your...

Mr. Strickland and the Billiard Network

Earl's commentary is the best! I hope he and billiard network re-dub some of the older, great matches on youtube that you can't watch because of bad commentary. I'd also enjoy hearing him comment on one of his own matches.

What's Good About A "Good Hit"?

A good hit, for me, is the result of a good, straight stroke with a loose grip on the cue. To me, the cue is like a musical instrument in that it needs to be able to resonate, or ring, in order to work its magic on the cue ball. A good hit is absolutely necessary if you're going to be able to...

Hypothetical Question - What would you do?

If you're playing for pure skill and honor, you tell them. If you're playing to win, you don't.

How did Bustamante make this shot

Looks to me like he hit the one ball well left of center, so the tangent forced the cue ball into the rail, but he also used follow on the cue ball. It was hit pretty firmly so the initial force was into the rail and a little rebound off the rail, before the follow caught the felt and spun the...

Name a pool hall you wish was still open today

Broadway Billiards NYC Broadway Billiards - NYC. Basement room. Open 24/7. Lots of small money games to be had. Kinda dumpy with worn equipment but the tables were level. I miss it....and it's a shame to say there is no 24/7 pool in NYC since it closed, AFAIK.

The Hustlers Premieres Friday May 22 at 9/8c on TruTV

"The Hustlers" is actually good! Yes, it is true...I'm not a fan of either TruTV or reality television in general....but The Hustlers is actually entertaining to watch. Doesn't feel scripted to me...and personally knowing a few of the players involved, I'd say the characters for the most part...

    New Home

I put 760 on my table in March. I love it - plays faster than the 860 and has a bit of a slick feel to it - which will probably wear off some as it ages - but I'm really happy with the choice. Definitely quality material.

    Busting the Stack

Can't really comment on your particular issue, Mike, but I also have a ball star cleaner and centennial balls. For the first few years I used the cleaner supplied with ball star...and was really unhappy with the cleanliness of the balls. Yes, they came out clean and shiny but they were also...

    Rule Question

Just out of curiosity, what did you mean when you said that the 1st player fouled for the 3rd time and left the cue ball where the 2nd player would foul for the third time? It doesn't matter anyway, because as already mentioned it's a re-brake for the 1st player and ball in hand behind the head...

    Rule Question

Yes of course you're right...I was talking about the difference between fouls in regular play and fouls on the break. After the third foul it's an opening break like you say...which means ball in hand in the kitchen. Thanks for pointing that out because the way I wrote it, it came out wrong.
