Nah, hustlers only play to win. Gamblers will gamble on anything, even things they won't control. Gamblers will gamble on cockroach races.

Odds are there to even out a match. If the odds are even, then you're gambling.
I might as well flip a coin for money if I don't think I have an edge or can beat the guy even up. Who wants to play a full pool game when it could be settled with a coin flip? Now don't get me wrong, I understand putting some money on the line between two players to "make it interesting" but you're not a smart gambler if you put something on the line when you don't have at least a 51% chance of winning.

And if everyone thought like that no one would ever match up. They would be too busy looking for the best of it.

as we can see here everyone doesnt think like that and some have plenty of money not made while working.

and some are on the rail deciding whether to get the 5 dollar hot dog or the 10 dollar hamburger when they want the hamburger.

Based on poolroom logic, the Vegas casinos are mere nits. I think the casino shareholders should petition management to reduce or eliminate the juice, that way no one can accuse the organization of having no heart.

It's really just common sense.

when two people play pool for money one always has the best of it.
and coincidentally it is usually the more wise of the two.

No it’s that some that consider themselves “smart gamblers” when in fact they’re just like casinos, they won’t play without an “edge”. Take their position on card counters. Card counters take away their “edge”, evening up the game. In the mob days in Vegas that could end up with you in the basement being offered to leave without your winnings or get worked. Then came multiple deck shoes, the Black Book, all to stop anyone intelligent enough to take away their edge. Casinos aren’t gamblers, they’re in business.

Pool players that won’t play an even game aren’t gamblers or “smart gamblers”, they’re in business. Now if someone comes barking at you offering too much weight or not asking for enough, then you’re almost obligated to take them off, they asked for it. But to never offer an even game or never take an offered game that is even means you’re not there to “gamble”, you’re there to do business, a nitty lock artist. The definition of gambling is “to take a chance”.

A “smart gambler” is a person that is smart enough to know how to truly clock an opponents game and is honest with themselves of what their own speed is to make an even game, and the heart to get in the box and “gamble”. May the best man win.

the definition of a smart gambler is one who tries to get an edge, and the best of them get it the most often.

"Pool players that won’t play an even game aren’t gamblers or “smart gamblers”, they’re in business."
that is basically true.

and in vegas it was the black book not the blue book that had the names of those barred from all casinos or people that should be if found in one.

Gambling is for entertainment purposes only. Don't bet the rent $$$. Being a nit lock artist is preferable. I used to be in the horse betting business for years. I've seen plenty lose everything they had plus more. Fellas betting even their wive's paycheck (sorry for your loss ma'am, I know for a fact you have suffered greatly for years and years). I'm not in the judging business, but I've seen what I've seen and I don't mind learning from the experiences of others. Everyone's mileage will vary.

I'm assuming he's talking 1pckt. Can anyone explain the spot? 10-8 for filler means Filler makes 10 and Scott makes 8 to win? Same for 9-7? If it is a 2 ball differential, why is 9-7 a bigger spot than 10-8????
10-8 gives the better player a little more time to come back if he gets behind. Same for both players, but it will usually work to the advantage of the better player.
