Johnny Archer

Some of the members here are brutal. Archer is a living legend. Player of the decade in the 90s. He's had a few hiccups, but we are all human. Who hasn't? He inspired me to play pool back in the early 90s. He was the coolest with his big gold scorpion necklace, beautiful Schon cue...and winning everything in site. EVERY young player was trying to play like Johnny. I'm glad to see him still striving.

She just turned 15 but I do agree with a poster above she should probably attend college but she can be top female player if she continues on. There is nobody that shoots at her level in the women's tour. I credit that to playing at Hard Times and competing with men and at Griffs this past month.
I'm sure she is still improving but currently 11th on the WPBA ranking list so I wouldn't say nobody is shooting at her level.

Just finished watching the Finals and she lost because of time running out. I've been watching pool for the last month with all the streams on youtube and she's been playing in a lot of tournaments out here.

In my opinion she's already a pro. She shoots like one and she has beaten up on men with high fargo ratings. We're talking about skunking them.

So this weekend she won the Juniors. 2nd in Womens, Eliminated in the semis in the Open by the eventual male winner.

Not bad. She could have won the women's final but she had a minute to run out 6 balls and rushed a shot.

Her style of play is very similar to any top men's player. Just creative and plays with power and takes risk. She doesn't play like a typical female with more calm and conservative shots and shape which makes her an interesting prodigy because she's competes against men.
She lost because she was out played. Too bad I wanted to see her win, in a year maybe 2 she will be able to beat who ever she lost to in the finals.

On the topic of age. Most of the guys who are at the top all started playing by 16. And lots of us who didn’t make it also were in 100% by age 16. She’s far from too young to make up her mind on what to do.

IMO she has a great start and should she stick with pool(I’d be surprised if she didn’t) she’s likely to do very well. She has a good mind for concentrating and knows how to win, manage her emotions from what I’ve seen. Thats not a guarantee of success, but it all favors her.

Will be cool to see how this all plays out. Pool needs this,

Best

He’s in a good spot right now(his mind), the last few years he went through it bad, life was brutal for him. Somethings were beyond his control, some weren’t. Life isn’t easy.

Like all great players time steals talent, and that’s a difficult thing to cope with. He’s mentally strong and finding his way through it all.

Some people never suffer great loss as they never had anything to lose in the first place. I ignore those people as they don’t know wtf they are talking about. I’ve suffered great losses, champions do as well. When you have lost a lot, you gain compassion if your human.

Fatboy<——come walk a mile in my shoes

As one example, yesterday was Easter. Yay, right? Sunday dinner with the family. Not for me. I have zero, yes absolutely zero blood family, not one living person on the globe. Think that feels good? So yes I know loss.

Adam Kielar Is at least a one time former Maryland State champ. Might've taken out Appleton. I forget.
I’ve matched up with Adam a few times in so cal. He is known as a top tier one pocket player but I’m not even sure he plays much rotation at all anymore, and with the swings in the game this result isn’t crazy surprising. But for sure he’s a great player and that’s a good result for her

Lol. Session with Kielar Pt 2.
He happened into a bar I was hanging out at. One table get in line. My table, I blew the out. Fini.

Otherwise seen him on youtube at HardTimes South.

I played him some 9 ball and one pocket on super tight pockets at Santa Monica hob before they closed. He’s great at both, but his one pocket is really top notch

....snip...

With some rules adjustments, I think that 8-ball should be the pro's game, and it's a win-win, as the game will be harder for the pros, but the guy at home will relate better to a game he knows from shooting at the bar with his friends.
No, please. Rather than have the guys at home relate to it, we should be switching the banger game to 9 ball. 8 ball is the most boring game on earth, UNLESS its played in this Ulimate Pool format, where its actually fun.

Popped in there circa 75. Spotted a then anonymous Lori Shampo on a back table. That's about all I remember. Don't think I even checked out a table. The tight pockets came later right?

I never thought I’d say this, but I kinda miss HOB. Not sure why, but I do a bit.
There was lots not to like, but lots to like as well. The staff were great (Mel and Natalia), there were always games, equipment was good, you could play some very high speed players if you wanted, you could sit on the rail and shoot the shit with Danny shades, limo bob, keone. Room had character and characters for sure. I was only around for about the last 10 years, but it was my room for those years and I was sad when it died

10 years ago is about when I stopped going there and playing as well.
