Johnny Archer

Terrible action there. That room had the highest % of nut hunters of any pool room ever. Sure play 1P Rich even and get robbed.

It’s so bad there I ran a social experiment. I offered 6/5 on coin flips. Let a guy flip the coin AND call it. Guaranteed losing $ for me. I couldn’t ever get anyone there to take that action. Absolute nut low.

I have more nit stories from that room than any room over the past 40 years I spent anytime in.

To be clear, yes there are some great guys in that room. Some are friends. But when it comes to action-which was my type of pool, it was the worst.

Best
Fatboy <——-that room is why I quit playing.
It was a nitty room for sure, but there was some good action too. Tall Phil, Asian jimmy, magdy, Wayne to name a few. Definitely a slew of people who wouldn’t bet a dime without the nuts though

I knew a guy that would win 100% of his coin flips if you let him flip and catch it. It looked like he was flipping it, but actually he just wobbled it in the air. He would catch it, slap it against that back of his other hand and say "call it!". He knew what it was and if you called it correct, he could flip the coin over in his palm. He won every break against me for years until he finally showed me what he was doing. He tried to tech me, but I could never do it.
It's easy. Wobble it in the air and catch it. Depending on what the person calls you open it it up with palms up or palms away. LOL

I've posted this before, so forgive me . . .

The first night of the 2005 DCC (EW days), there was a very mixed crowd in the action room (bar) -- much wolfing etc. From frat boy types to the most inner of inner city boyz, everyone was checking everyone else out. A three card monte dealer was giving it everything he had -- deftly. Eventually, someone yells,
"I'll bet anything on a coin flip"
All hell broke loose from all sides. A pair of young hustlers pushed the bet hard. Finally, an older, lanky dude seemingly from out West, a Cowboy, says,
"Okay, I'm in for a $1,000.00."
One of the young guns says,
"Okay, but I get to call it in the air, and the flip lands on the floor."
The crowd parts, money posts, coin goes up, and the young kid's call comes,
"Heads on the floor"
The coin is down, on the floor, tails up. The Cowboy is attempting to collect, but the young guy comes over the top, stopping the payoff, saying,
"I won, I won -- HEADS IS ON THE FLOOR".
Eventually, the two young cats take the cash, the crowd quiets, a little, others are halfheartedly exchanging propositions, but a pall has been cast. Finally, the Cowboy says slowly, very evenly,
"That was a stone cold hustle, and I want the money back"
All hell breaks loose, again
"I called 'heads on the floor', and heads was on the floor . . ."
Then I hear the Cowboy, again slowly, very evenly, saying something to the effect of,
"I don't know if you fellows mean to stay around all week, but if you don't give me the money, you best clear out now, because I promise you I'll be here all week".
The young dude, somewhat chagrined, owns up and hands the money over. Now, all hell really breaks loose -- the quiet one of the pair is in his partner's face, dog cussing him.
"You #$%&@(&. What are you doing? We've waited for years to make that . . ."
I never saw the two young ones after that night, but the Cowboy was there for the rest of the week.

Just shocking they wouldn’t take that. The free money machine shows up and they scatter. 😱
Scattered every time.

It wasn’t a scam.

Their coin, their flip, I offered to pay after every flip. No strings.

No takers

How on earth can you get a good game in that joint?

Big Phil was good action. He’d make a game. Canadian Wayne was just too strong for me to mess with.

I offered to play 1P Rich 9B banks my scratches don’t count for $10/rack on the front table many times. His table. I was a dog in that game for sure. He’d never play me.

Danny Shades was the only action I ever got in that room. Nuff said!

Tough crowd

So when is the billiards_watch vs. JA Barbox match?

Haven't seen a full match of Easton's, so how does she stack up against:
A healthy Allison Fisher?
Kelly Fisher?
Pia Filler?
Mrs. Fedor?
She’s a big underdog to the top female players in the world (not sure I’d include Pia in that group just yet) but she’s rapidly improving, and I do think she could be a top player someday. Savannah might be the best American born female in the world – I think she plays better than April Larson.

I’ve mentioned it here before, but I’m also really impressed with Jordan Helfery. I think she’s 13 years old, but the poise and confidence she plays with is incredible – in my opinion she outplayed Dave Matlock when they won the mixed doubles at the previous Ultimate Pool event. Don’t be surprised if we start to see her making deep runs in events soon

The reason why I rank Easton so high amongst her peers because she plays in the Open against men and pretty successful at it. The last event I believed she lost in the semis to the eventual male winner of the Open.

With her affiliation to Oscar, both sponsored by Lucasi/Brunswick, I believe she will continue to play against men at these competitive Hard Time Billiards events.

I believe these are the difference makers.

The guy I seen it from caught it and slapped it on his opposite wrist with his catch hand still covering it. Then he said "call it". He knew what it was and if you called the other side, he could somehow flip it while he was taking his hand away. Kind of like that video only more complex.

Is he a boozer? He didn't sound like the old Johnny Archer when he was commentating last night and then I watched him play and he was another guy. LOL

Shaky, not calm, undecisive looking and he didn't belong. They promoted this tour as fast paced and guys running the ball out in 45 seconds. If Archer was down there is no way I expect him to run a ball out in 45 seconds. This tournament really shows the age of the older players because you have to think quick and be on your feet.

I see this style of play as making pool look more professional and you have to be quite athletic to pull off the run outs Savannah and her peers were doing. 50 to 70 second runouts.

She almost came back against Johnny but too much mistakes. 3 minutes on the clock and down 2 games I believe. Break and run in 60 seconds and hope Johnny breaks dry. Regardless, Johnny was wasting time and got the victory.
Archer is not aging well...looks like a guy in his 70ies...

How do you think she compare to Sofia Mast? Mast is a very solid player. I've watched both and can't really decide who is better.

Manipulation is why I like to have both people flip a coin and have someone call odd or even while the coins are in the air. Never really understood why we flip coins instead of lagging for the break most of the time. It makes much more sense to lag to determine the start of a pool game.

Sofia is a year older and much more polished. She plays like a female pro.

Savannah is good in the sense she's like a power player. Risks, draw and ball manipulator. She more or so plays like a male pro because she doesn't just play in women's tournaments but against predominantly men players. I think this helps her in the long run.

They are pretty much equals. The only difference is Savannah has a style of play where Sofia is much more robotic.

Now I just started watching pool again because I get recommendations from my YT video and I've fell in love with the game after a hiatus. So I'm watching more and Savannah has a social media presence where her games are streamed online and I see her play mostly males. I don't even know if Sofia goes on the road or does she only play locally and in big tournaments only. I've watched Sofia in big matches and juniors.

Just saw a FB post from Sofia where she left Predator and picked up a Pechauer sponsorship. Good for her. She must be doing something right to have multiple companies looking to sponsor her.

Mistake by Predator.

These cue manufacturers are like F1 racing teams. We have Team Lucasi with Oscar and Savannah and Predator had Sofia.

If anyone drops Sofia or she leaves a company there will be another. She's too good to not be sponsored.

It depends on how you market yourself, which she apparently does well. The are more ways to make money now then just tournament winnings. But it will be a good thing for her to have something to fall back on.
Fall back on!! She’s 14-15 whatever! Her parents are the marketers. Now they have a coin with her symbol( which I think Hanna Barbara might have a problem with) for flipping.
