Introduction. Hi everyone

Finally managed to get approved here. Thanks !!
Well, lil about myself... back when I was in my late teens and early twenties I really enjoyed going to the local pool hall " Bank shots" in Delaware. Can't say that i was any good and my playing style was more hold my beer while I play wack a mole.
Fast forward 30 years.. Last year I joined the local Moose lodge in elkton Maryland and started playing again, not so great at first, but after a few weeks I started getting pretty decent. Now after a year a year of playing ive become "above average". Lol.
Ive been working on ball positioning lately and have been having a bit of a rough time with it. Last Friday I managed to get the cue ball where I wanted it, but bobbled every shot out of the pocket doing it so many times that a player I had never met asked one that I play regularly if I was new to the sport..... I was happy to hear him say " oh no, he's actually really good, just off tonight"
Any way, one of the reasons I joined up was to learn more about cue making as I'm getting ready to try and make my first one. I blame my neighbor for getting me interested in this, he has made a couple now and got me hooked into it.
I do a fair amount of machine work and have a pretty elaborate shop set up for metalworking and have done some woodworking in the past so this should be alot of fun. So far all I've done is turn down some dowels and scribble down some design ideas, but hope to start putting something together in the next couple weeks... After I dump more money into some wood that is...
Anyway, Hi everyone and here's a pic of the dowels I have turned to 1.3" so far. More to come, but where to post???

Post photos under your name in the Cue Gallery Forum and the Cue Maker Forum or the Main Forum. Readers will appreciate seeing your workmanship and become more familiar. Talent never goes unnoticed on Az which applies to
great cue makers, mediocre ones or someone just starting as a newbie. The mediocre ones don’t get as much praise.

Yup! Post in the gallery!

I know I'll cheer him on!

Yes!

But if you f**k it up the opposite will be your fate. LOL!

Get on with it. Be honest. Be open. No worries.

And POST PICTURES! :)
Chopdoc is right……..cue makers are people before they are craftsmen. But either category is susceptible to mistakes.
If you own up to them whenever that might occur, learn from it and make things right with your customer(s), you’ll grow
from the experience and at the same time, elevate your credibility with readers and active members on this website.

You do not have to be extraordinarily talented to be genuine, honest and forthright. Those are traits that only help to
enhance your image and reputation as being truthful and committed to customer satisfaction. This website can help
you build a reputation as a high quality cue maker or it can reveal your flaws. Just always be honest and do your best.

Swapping out a CNC mill control board already makes you sound like a wizard. LOL!
Nah, it's pretty easy and comes with directions.
Although last time with the novusun controller I followed the directions and spent 3 days trying to figure out why it wasn't communicating. Turns out the IP address in the directions was wrong and I should have used the IP address that was on the disc that came with it...Silly me..
But for a real mentally challenging machine I have a hardinge dsma that runs great and will go non stop for a 1000 part run.... once you spend 3 days fixing its wtf is wrong with it now syndrome....
Relay logic anyone??? 😆

You can spin off a pin business from your cue business ! Cool.

Dave <-- has a new control board from Genmitsu coming soon because the spindle relay locked up ... will swap then try to fix the failed one, and also drop in a trim router for more power and less reliance on the controller

That how I run a .010" endmill without breaking.

Ready to take orders…….got a hunch you could be a gemstone about to be unearthed.

I'm a good ways off from taking orders..
I really need to find a good source for some exotic hardwood. Hitting the local woodcraft every week can put a guy in the poor house trying to find that perfect bit of timber. Lol
There's alot of things I want to experiment with too, like dying and stabilizing in order to create something really unique. But I also like and appreciate the color, grain patterns, and natural beauty of wood..
One things for certain, I'm enjoying the new challenges and diversity with cue building. It really let's one express their artistic side while simultaneously testing ones skills and abilities.
Colored pencils... take colored pencils to work tonight... 😃
