O.B. Spotter. The ultimate billiard practice machine!

O.B. Spotter

New member
Hi everybody,
My name is Guy Jémus, and I'm from Montréal , Canada. I would like to introduce you to my new billiard practice tool (patent pending) that I make and also produce for ordering. It is called the O.B. Spotter.

It is designed to send an object ball (O.B.) repeatedly to a very precise location (that you choose) on the pool table for you to shoot at many times in a row (12 times/charge). The idea is to have the O.B. Spotter send at the exact same position one object ball at the time, for you to shoot, with your cue ball already marked and place on the table so that your visual and muscle memory remember how to make that exact shot many times and experiment with different spin effects. No more walking around the pool table to "replace" the object ball that you missed time after time! Let the O.B. Spotter do the job for you! When you are satisfied with the result, you simply change the O.B. Spotter's location on the pool table to practice a different shot. My experience shows that you can make 50% or more shots with the O.B. Spotter for the same period of time than without it, increasing your practice time efficiency significantly.

To find more about this incredible machine, go to Facebook@O.B. Spotter to see many available videos. Feel free to message me at the same time on the Facebook@O.B. Spotter page to have more information.

Thank you for your time. Guy Jémus.

You need to post a video on your Facebook page or here, so we can actually see how it works. It would be nice to see how it actually places the ball and then how the machine gets out of the way before you shoot.

Hi, I will add a link for a video in the original message at the top here but If you go on the O.B SPotter facebook page, there is like 5-6 different videos showing the O.B. Spotter in action. The O.B. Spotter stand in a corner of the table and launch an object ball 5-6 feet away from it at a very precise spot (within half a centimeter) and you shot the shot then repeat the action until you master the shot. Cheers

The O.B. Spotter is accurate down to a few millimeter. The precision depends on the quality of the billiard balls and the cloth.
If you lack the patience to set up shots, how is this thing going to help? And the battery; that works for 12 loads or 12 balls? And the readjustment per different shot. Even handicapped players would get better results just using their cues.

I don’t think it’s lacking patience. As I understand it . It’s similar to a coach making you repeat the same shot in succession (12 times before à refill). The coach places the ob back in position, this machine does that. Obviously you still have to recover and re spot the cue ball
Cool idea, well done , In my opinion it’s too expensive for how much time it would save me in reality , for example I’ve got to go and recover all 12 balls , then load the machine and play around for a while to get it to place it in exactly the new spot I want to try

In actual pool, every shot will be unique and the player needs to develop the ability to recognize and make what's in front of him for what it is, as is. I wouldn't even recommend practicing specific shots "until you can't miss them" for the simple reason you might just fire at a shot that looks familiar but is out of spec enough to not go. It's the players who won't dispense with the mundane steps - like actually walking around for instance, that will will develop the focus to play the pool.

Cool gadget. Ball placing cue would have more range and consistency.

Clearly, you did not look at the videos, or you are the type who does not welcome changes or innovation at all. I can assure you that i have many pool instructors and serious pool players who bought and are using the O.B Spotter and are extremely happy with it. Once you tried it for an hour, you would not talk like this anymore, I promise. So, if you see an O.B. Spotter on a pool table, AND you will eventually, try it!
In the meantime, here are some facts about my invention. The rechargeable external lithium battery will last for 10 hours of practice (hundreds of o.b. shooting). You place the O.B. Spotter on the table and shoot the shot many times to get your timing right (30-60 times) then change the aiming of the O.B. Spotter to do a different shot. That easy.
Have a nice day.

This is exactly why I did the O.B. Spotter, to repeat the same shot in succession and learn what the spin on the cue ball will do to the object ball and the rails as you shoot from exactly the same spots. Only that way can you really master the effects applied. Also, what is the number one phrase that many, many professional pool players say a lot? I wish I had someone to spot the balls for me... Well, no more. cheers.

Neither. Just pointing out the folly and impracticality of your device. I did watch the video. Very cool you automated a stimp meter. Opinion wise, the marketed use will set student progress backwards instead of forwards.

Very cool.

We've got other inventors here who share their passions and it is amazing to see what you all are doing.

Neat prototype. Surprised at how consistent the stimpmeter roll is. I had this idea but it used a swinging arm to place the ball, yours is more simple.

Have you evaluated the market to identify the value added and demand for your product? Have you thought about simplifying it for actual manufacturing? Did you have or did you perform the appropriate electromagnetic compliance testing for your transmitter and receiver? Is your battery UN38.3 and or UL certified? What about the charger? And how do you ship it?

These things will need to be thought about before selling.
