Ultimate Pool USA Boston Shootout

Eric, I would have to say that you shot very well in that Declan match. I was hoping you didn't miss the 8 when you fist pumped before it went in.
Your first shot in the last rack where you made 4 stripes and 1 solid was a monster gotta have it break moment.
The shot down the rail on your first solid was ballsy and really good. The slight bump up onto the 1 and then the 2, 6, were some of the best 8 ball I've seen.

Congratulations.
Thank you! I was feeling confident!

what is open?
what is shootout?
is it first round /second round?

or is it simply thurs/fri
sat/sun?

are there race changes and rule changes?
what are they and when?
what is winner/ runner up/ etc. payout?

also- why can bergman move the white ball with his cue tip while positioning the ball for the break shot but other players cannot?

maybe it depends on the mood of the ref?
It's clearly not for you. Watch what you like.

Tom Cousins won the Boston Open, defeating SVB in a semifinal match and then Declan Brennan in the final. In those two marches, Cousins broke 12 times; 11 were successful and 10 led to B&Rs. Nine of the 10 B&Rs were in a row across the two matches -- an alternate-break 9-pack (across matches).
How about Declan?! He made the finals of the Open playing some amazing pool, and he's never played on these tables or with these balls before. Unreal.

Very fun tournament to watch. I wish it didn't sell out immediately after becoming available, this event would have been fun to play in and reasonably close to home.

I like the Ultimate pool format but... what is the difference between the shootout and the Open event? Also, what are the payouts for these events?
The Shootouts are invitational, and purely single-elimination. I think the Shootouts prior to the one in Boston were just 16 players. They expanded it to 24 players for this recent one.

The Open spots go to whoever enters, until the field is full. The Boston event had 128 players. It started with a group stage of 32 round-robin groups of 4 players, with 2 players from each group, 64 players in total, getting to the single-elimination stage.

The payouts for the Boston Open, as listed on the event notice (https://ultimatepoolusashop.com/), are:
1st -- $8,000
2nd -- 4,000
3rd/4th -- 1,800
5th/8th -- 900
9th/16th -- 450
17th/32nd -- 200

That totals $26,000. Another $1,500 in total went to the top 8 in the second-chance event.

Edit -- I now see that loggerhead12 already posted the event notice (or whatever it is called).

Another fun event in the books.

I do wonder though, what are the chances of them changing the break rules? I ask because I noticed everyone was breaking from the side and hitting between the second and third ball on the side. Also, I know Brunswick just signed to be their official table partner, but do you think we will see something with tighter pockets in the future from the Brunswick side?

Yup, pretty sporty. He even beat Waddingham, winner of the Shootout (and the guy who beat you in the Open!).

I watched a few matches, including all of the Women's final. That was a fun match, Emily and Ashley both banked a bunch of balls, including Emily's final match winning 8 ball.

I think Ultimate Pool has a winning format. I absolutely despise both playing and watching "normal 8 ball", but am super enjoying watching this format. I will go so far as to say I think its more fun than watching the MR majors.

This might legit be the future of pool in the USA. I don't think I'd mind that.

impressive. the UK and NI boys play barbox 8-ball for a living though, it's the only game they play

the first events were on tight diamonds. lousiana open maybe? i think brunswick jumped in as main sponsor and they do look quite a bit softer.

on the breaks. no hate but if you're as talented as justin bergman, why not practice breaking diligently, every day until the cows come home.. especially if he's gonna play every one of these events

I've watched some streams from this and the last event.
It's no more than some light pass time entertainment, an exhibition if you'd like.
To me it feels that these events only exist as promotions to draw people to play in their leagues.
I will not be surprised to find out that the top pros that show up are getting paid to do so.
They do put out a nice production and maybe with the right exposure they might draw more people into pool.
The game itself is not more intersting than a game being played in a movie.

Yeah I'm picking up that SVB either has an extremely tone deaf sense of humor, is a misogynist, or just an extreme a-hole when it comes to women. He really needed to just shut up and let her shoot, I think she made less mistakes than him.
I'll grant tone-deaf and can come across as an a-hole, but from my observation he treats his male and female doubles partners the same way (for better or for worse). He is just laser-focused on winning and playing the correct way and that comes across in directing his partners to a somewhat micromanaging degree. Such a mindset, which I agree can be off-putting, is how you become the #1 player in the world and stay there for a dozen or so years.
