Toasty to become citizen

Good for him!

I have watched people do the work to become a citizen. It isn't a gimme, a lot of work involved including prepping for the test. Respect for him and everyone that goes through the process.

A co-worker I had went through this process a few years ago. He's a Filipino, spoke English fine, had been living here for years, and I actually didn't know that he was currently not a citizen, but it came up one day when he asked a question that was in his study materials. Once we knew he was going through the process, we made a little daily quiz break every day where a few of us all tried to answer the questions he had on some flash cards he made. Like most natural born Americans, we learned most of it in school, but there were a few questions here and there that would trip us up. It definitely isn't a walk through. His biggest concern was that there was an interview part of the process, where he had to sit and talk with someone, and answer questions individually.
He eventually did pass the test, and I regret that we, as a department, or even our site, did not make a bigger deal of that achievement.

I wish him the best of luck. Every time he leaves the US, there is no telling if he will be allowed to re-enter. Hope he is carrying a burner phone with zero social media on it, that is all I can say.

Why anyone would want to become a US citizen right now is beyond me.
yeah right, every night on the news you see the lines of thousands and thousands of people renouncing their US citizenship and leaving the US to move to Mexico, Venezuela, Brazil, Haiti, Cuba, Columbia, Guatemala and all the garden spots in the middle east

you might want to pay attention to whether a country puts up walls to keep their citizens from leaving versus countries that have to put up walls to keep illegal immigrants out.

I knew a Cuban woman would say how proud she was to become an American citizen many years ago. Her face would light up when she talked about it

I have never met a naturalized citizen that wasn't damned proud of it. Some born citizens take it lightly. Far more than seventh grade Civics, I would say it is more like college level courses. Somewhat embarrassing to say but if ten people naturalized in the last ten years and ten born citizens were given the same college level test I would bet on the naturalized citizens scoring higher. While general knowledge would be equal, knowledge of the nuts and bolts of how government functioned would be stronger among the people who studied for their citizenship. My opinion anyway, and I have lived alongside people studying for citizenship.

I am confident I could pass a citizenship test. Somewhat embarrassing to say, I would guess or miss some questions unless things have changed greatly. It is a far harder test than I expected.

Agree 100%. People are LINED-UP trying to get in. If its so bad that fkng penguin is free to go to Antartica with his relatives.

I have a problem understanding why a lot of citizens in America are unhappy. Life is not fair but WTF...a person can do anything within the law...go as far as their talents will take them.
I met/worked with a dentist from Romania in the 60's... He was thrown out of his office. It was taken over by Commies I think. His wife found an organization to get them to America.... became citizens. Never heard him complain about being here, a citizen.

Funny as heck...he did not speak English then... One day he asks me... What is No deposit No Return. His first words.. I think about that every time I see a Coke bottle😂. Remember then?

All these butthurt America knockers wouldn't last a week anywhere else. They'd all be screaming their way back. Done here. This shit belongs on NPR. Sorry for the diversion.

Keeping things back on topic, how are we feeling about him and the Mosconi team? Doesn't change much, right? Seems like at most he fills the 5th spot that would go to the likes of Oscar, Thorpe, or Wolford. Maybe his experience and leadership could add an intangibles boost?

When I went to Parris Island for my older son's graduation, I thought I would get choked up and start bawling during that ceremony. But what brought me to tears was the day before when 6 cadets were sworn in as citizens. That was a very moving experience.

The test is similar to a 7th grade civics class
Which means more than half of natural-born Americans would fail. 😂
According to a survey released by the Institute for Citizens & Scholars, only one in three Americans (36%) can pass a multiple-choice test consisting of questions taken from the U.S. Citizenship Test. The passing score on the actual citizenship test is 60%. A similar survey also found that only 39% of Americans can pass such a test.
