Maybe because people are reluctant to let random innerwebs people into their house? Because they prefer to play against their pool-playing friends? Because the potential players feel more comfortable going to the pool hall where they can get a decent burger?

How is your plan to play in a pro tournament going?

I went out to the closest place as you pointed out, FiddleStix, played open tourny on Monday and got fargo Rated. I think this is the direction to keep on going. Just raise up my fargo rate and eventually I will get invitations. It will be a long road but that is the directive

What about the idea of going to a local Bar and post up private Tourneys ?

8/9/10 balls BCA ?

I've done and taken part in many self organized mini tournaments in local pool halls.
It's fun but the clubs don't chip in, so most of the entry fee goes to cover table time. still fun.

How did you go around looking out for those events or hosting/starting 1 ?

Look for facebook pool groups in your area, I'm sure you will find many. You will find all of the tournaments you can handle, I have choices of what tournaments I want to play in every weekend. Plus you will probably find places where you can match up to a player close to your Fargo rating for money and it will probably be streamed too. If you aint finding a bunch of competitive stuff to do you aint trying.

This triggers an old fart memory. 😉
Long ago and far away, I was playing a $10 nine ball game. A neophyte player approached to put a quarter on the rail to challenge the table. I informed the challenger that it was a $10 game if he indeed wanted to play. His instant reply was, "Don't tell me you are gambling! You can get the house in trouble for allowing gambling."
So I immediately revised the response to, "Okay, we are Not Gambling! It's a pool tournament. $10 entry, single game 9 ball, single elimination. When this tournament concludes, we will play another.... Do you want in?"

That response was GOLD!! 🤣

You need 7 players minimum for FargoRate to accept a tournament. I know this as fact. Their support informed me when a tournament I was the TD of had 6 players and I asked why it was not accepted.

Make a digitalPool account and start your own tournaments at your local pool room. That's what I did. Worked out ok.

People don't like going to private houses in my experience. They like being at a pool room for the social aspect. Even serious players want the social aspect. The home table is for playing solo. The pool room is for competition.

That response was GOLD!! 🤣
I have always treated "The Money" as a method of keeping score. "Whatever is comfortable. " would be my reply to, "how much". Kind if like the antee in poker. 🤷‍♂️
My goal was always just try to make them quit. Er uh Conceed is a better term. 😉
Salesman ship is important. Of course producing the goods is critical. As uh Bob Lilly said, "it ain't the size of the dog in the fight. It's the size of the fight in the dog. "
I pay for lessons. Of course I charge for same. 🤷‍♂️ 😉

just players that we know each other from league or other tournaments and club locals get together, meet at the club and get a couple of tables and run it ourselves.

Today it’s easier as we have a players whatsapp group so we just advertise there and see if there are any takers.
We don’t do Fargo so that doesn’t matter.

One of the pool clubs here started a weekly small tournament every Thursday evening, small events, so far we had 16 players max.
We do groups of round robin and then 2 from each group advance to a knockout stage.
We finish it in like 4-5 hours. We get different levels of players, we look at it as practice tournament, so no handicap.

If Mike Surber had survived the robbery at his place I wonder what he'd have to say on this topic. Even if you can keep people in a pool room/garage I can still think of 10 different life altering crimes that could take place. Most areas will have a private pool club or even a pool room with monthly memberships. Much much much easier to just eat up the cost of table time!!!

A guy I grew up with and another guy we grew up with his dad would have us over and play a QUARTER a man ring game, we always had lots of laughs. Even f you'vie known people all your life I could still see things going sideways these days cause people are NUTS!!! One week night in my small hometown bar another guy I grew up w that plays pool and follows pro pool got into a verbal altercation with a young guy no one knew over a pool game on free pool night, another regular at the bar LOUDLY announces "THAT BITCH HAS A GUN". Randomly within seconds you see sirens in the parking lot (which I'd never seen before in 20 years), the cops had followed someone off the highway and pulled them over in the parking lot which instantly ended the altercation! This one was before Covid, you NEVER know what can happen good or bad!!

You can use the Salatto app to play Fargo reported matches against your friends. Or just talk to people about other tournaments know about if your goal is to get a solid Fargo rating.

I see, so linking Salatto to my fargo, and challenging others = how to keep improving the scores ? That means I can hang around the Bar and put up a table ?

However you want to do the matches, you can do it, in a pool hall, at your house, wherever. Probably not good for just randomly asking people to play using the app, it's more geared towards those who already know how to play and know about Fargo. You would want to play with players already in the system so you can get an accurate comparison to your skill. Improving the scores is up to you LOL, but you will get more games in the system for a more accurate result. https://salotto.app/ https://salotto.app/how-it-works/ There is a fee for using the app to submit to Fargo.

I don’t play in a league, I don’t play in tournaments as of now. However, I wanted to get my Fargo established. I got my initial rating by emailing Fargo and they set it. Then I just play Rated players from my pool room in Salotto and report my games. I have 110 games in the system now by doing this.

I have even hosted games at my house with a few buddies.
