SVB shouldn’t be allowed to turn hearing aids off?

When I watched that podcast, even though Fedor was smiling, I honestly didn’t think he was joking. He said “that should be illegal” and Joe laughed, but then Fedor doubled down with “no, it should be.” When Joe pushed back with “really?” Fedor even kind of sheepishly tripled down with a shrug.

I thought Joe’s response was spot on. He didn’t agree, and he said almost not thinking Fedor was serious “really? listen man, life deals you lemons and you make lemonade.” That’s the right perspective in my opinion.

I don’t think Fedor is a bad person at all. He’s young, he’s competitive, and I don’t think he’s really given much thought to the fact that Shane or anyone else in similar shoes has had to overcome a lot in life to get to where they are.

At the 37:30 mark you can watch.

Yeah that’s how I took it but like other posters have put maybe it was just good deadpan humour

I doubt Fedor meant anything by this.

Obviously, Shane's hearing issues made learning how to play world championship level pool harder for him than for others. If the ability to tune out noise gives him a slight edge while playing, so what? Shane was dealt a difficult hand to play in life and has played it masterfully.

when you're deaf and wearing earing aids, sometimes you need to turn them off, because the aids do generate noises.
You don't wear them for fun, that's a prosthetic , sensory/acoustic aid.
is it a problem when you need glasses and you removes them sometimes ?

i can understand fedor's point
shane does not have use any brain power to block out extraneous noises
so he can devote 100% to playing pool
if a waitress dropped a tray of drinks just as shane was delivering his stroke on his match winning ball it would not disturb him
it might distract his normal hearing opponent
just sayin
When you have hearing loss your brain manufactures noise.

I've got tinnitus in my right ear after a large speaker blew up as I walked by it during a concert in the early 1980's a friend suggested I try a hearing aid which didn't help and in some ways made it worse .
I've often wished I could turn down or better yet off the ringing noise but so far nothing helps that I'm aware of .

Maybe this is why Shane took me for the money when we played ha ha he turned off his hearing aid or maybe it was because I just wasn't shooting as well as I could of ! Ha ha

I don't think deaf people benefit from hearing aids.
People that wear them are hearing impaired. "Turning them off", IOW, removing them, does not make the world totally silent.

Is there a WPA rule you can't wear earplugs?

When I'm in a noisy poolroom, I tear off the corner of a bev nap, piece in ea ear.
Did it for yrs, working the nightclubs in my youth.
Near impossible to hear your waitress order at this one joint I worked, unless you did this.

Just listened to the Fedor -Rogan podcast.
Fedor said SVB shouldn’t be allowed to turn his hearing aids off. What do you all think?
I completely disagree, SVB should be allowed to play in his natural physical state. I found that statement rather insulting to SVB Niel’s is blind in one eye, maybe he should be forced to have a mechanical device that makes his other eye work, or someone who is missing a finger should be forced to have a prosthetic on whilst playing.

I think the statement was rude and I’m also not convinced « normal hearing players « would play better in complete silence, If I play with complete noise cancelling earbuds, I hate not being able to hear the noise feedback from the balls. Either way I think his statement was wrong, going to an even more extreme example, if a guy had a back deformity that keeps him in the perfect pool position would we force him to do something about it?

I like Fedor but can’t agree with his statement
He could show up with no hearing aid, then what?Tell him to get his deafness fixed..?

If Gorst really said that..that is the dumbest thing I've ever heard come out of his mouth.
He did and so did earl many years ago. That’s when earl wore the helicopter pilot head phones to drown out the noise 😂..why’s it dumb? Specially at the mosconi cup when the loud crown is distracting and he can just turn it off. That’s a pretty big advantage. Lol seems like common sense to me
I haven't listened to the podcast yet but I would bet money this is being taken out of context. Fake news so to speak.
it’s not taken out of context. I listened to it. joe asked him did he think it was an advantage and fedor said yes. nothing fake news about it.

Even Shane says it's an advantage though. 🤷‍♂️
