I'm thinking about something from Character Cues.

The one on the left is made from Ash (blue), Black Cherry burl.

The one in the middle is made from spalted/stabilized maple (purple), black cherry burl (handle)

The one on the right is made from Spalted & Stabilized White Ash, Walnut and black birch burl between copper rings.

Here's one you don't see too often.

My wife's. Maple burl...

We were talking to David Elliot about making her a cue. When she had finished explaining her thoughts, he pulled this out and said "something like this"?

She said "Exactly! How much"?

He said "Sorry, it's my personal cue and isn't for sale".

She said "Bullshit, everything's for sale, how much"?!

He looked at the little old lady with her hands on her hips and just sighed and handed it over. Then said that he'd make 2 new shafts for her and bring them in in a few weeks... 😂

Very nice. 👍

I don’t know if this forearm qualifies as burl. It is from a very gnarly maple that I harvested. I stabilized it with black dye, I kept this cue simple, I was an experiment to see if I could make a built in telescopic extension.

Looks nice.

Maybe you can group gnarly maples in with the fungal-damaged burl woods? As the Character Cues owner writes
Burl grows where trees are attacked and suffer. The fungus that eats rotting wood leaves lines and colors behind. Suffering, death and decay become cue art.
