Was wondering what century did this become our norm? Before the depression era?

You can probably see when double elimination started for pool by looking at Charlie Ursitti's records of all the major pool events. The earliest were round robin or challenge matches and he lists through at least the 1970s, when they were all DE.
I thought Frank McGowan did in his earlier yrs.
