Gambling room all but gone at the expo?

I’m heading there tomorrow so this is from a friend who’s been there all weekend but the gambling room which used to be packed with bar box’s only has 1 bark box and a couple 9 footers ? While I’m fine with that because i think the gambling holds the game back to get bigger I’m wondering why that is? It was always a big part of the expo

It sucks. If you wanna play on the BB you gotta bring balls 🤦‍♂️
 
Yeah was there yesterday. 5 9footers and a box. Got on the 20 dollar 9 footer. Had to wait about half hour. Won 3 racks then lost the 4th. Signed back up but there was at least 12 people ahead of me at that point.

They need more tables. Like 15 would be perfect, hell even 10 or 12 is better then 5.

Hopefully this is someting that gets corrected for future events.

20 dollar a game at the expo on tables.? that kind of small bets ruin the gambling aspect. take those bets to the local bar or pool room.

instead of hogging tables.

If you’ve ever been around the action table at the SBE, you know the posted game is almost beside the point. $20 a game? Sure. But that’s just the surface. The real action is in the side bets, $40 on the breaker, $100 on the racker, sometimes well over $1,000 flying around the rail while the actual players are only in it for $10 or $20. The goal isn’t just to win a rack. It’s to hold the table. Because there’s always a list of challengers waiting, and the longer you stay up, the more the side action builds. That’s what creates the buzz. That’s what makes the action table the place to be.

Big money sets between two players do happen, but honestly, that’s not the norm. The energy usually comes from the crowd, the betting, and the constant rotation of players trying to get a shot, which is why I was surprised to hear the action table had no balls this year. No balls?! That’s like a card game with no deck. Sure, someone could bring their own, but who actually does that?

Kind of hard to have an action table without the most basic ingredient. Definitely changes the whole dynamic.

They used to .. for the entire time I’ve been going to the expo which is a couple decades. I have no idea what the sudden change it.

really? What in the hell. There has to be a reason like the local authority came down on him for gambling. I have no problem with it because imo it’s horrible for the game but there has to be a reason. It’s no like Allen is against gambling lol

Looks like the Latinos were enjoying a lot of challenge matches in the action room. There were lots of contenders willing to step up to the plate. One match was a player playing one-handed against a right-handed player playing left-handed. Good grief!

But the biggest challenge match, from what I've been able to gather, was a race to 7 for 240 million Colombian pesos. IYKYK.

IDK what your friend is smoking? There have been games for 1k up thru 200k at the expo. Non stop action. In both the action room and spread throughout the venue at the booth tables once the exhibits close down for the night.

I'm actually happy the action room is all 9'.
 
I heard a rumor that the truck that had the 7' tables for the action room broke down so they put 9' tables in its place. No idea if true.

The room started with all 9'. Yesterday during the day a game was made for 200k in the main floor on a 7'. It had a huge crowd around it. Hopkins came by and told them to shut it down/move it because it was blocking the entire main venue. One of the mechanics picked up the table and moved it to the action room, and they continued there. That's how the one loan 7' table got into the action room.

Oh, and Glen, realkingcobra, had a seminar on how to replace the cloth on a table yesterday. It started at noon, and went thru about 9pm. I was participating in it. He had a beat 7' table from a local vending company wheeled in and it was placed in the corner of the action room for the demo. After it was put back together and the demo was over, it was put into play and available for the action players. So that brought the total in the action room from I believe 5 9' tables originally, to 5 9' tables plus 2 bar boxes.

Definitely not the same as it used to be, really unfortunate (gambling wise). 4 9ft tables and 1 bar box, however the big group from PR kept trying to take the tables over for their money matches. Constant sharking from those guys and they kept trying to play in place of their friends while they gambled (for the open event). Always ask for ID!!

There were also 2 9ft tables between hall A and B, near the beef jerky stand that many were gambling on as well.

Used to be much better with multiple bar boxes set up in the practice room, now you have to wait until after midnight to play on the tournament tables, plus TAP has commandeered the majority of them.

Overall though it was a huge turn out with many vendors, lots of fun in any case.

They were definitely in action non-stop, kicking people off "their" tables each day. Some fun matches to watch, one younger kid played like a monster, didn't catch his name but he was impressive to watch.

Can't be due to the gambling... they are live streaming it from another section of the expo.

I heard that there were far more TAP teams than typical, so the 7' tables were needed for the team events. No idea on the validity of that rumor, but it would make sense.

I wish that we had done introductions and mentioned our AZB monikers. I was there for a couple of hours, mostly talking with Steve Gephart and Brian Russell. I left the Expo center around 7:45. At that time, the bed cloth hadn't been laid out yet.

How’s the jerky? Is it rubbery or crisp like it’s supposed to be?

Damn, didn't realize you were there. I was the tall skinny guy asking a bunch of questions. haha. I need to hit you up for info on the refinish you did on the GC from the other thread a month ago.
