The last couple of weeks, I seem to have fallen into a pattern. Putting together decent patterns, and then going "mind-blind" on the 8 ball. I don't feel like I'm doing anything different on the 8, than I am on any other shot during the rack. Pre-shot routine seems fine, I don't feel like I'm rushing, breathing feels the same, etc...I'm just missing. Do any of you Mosconis out there go through this? What do you do to "flip the switch?" At this point, I'm considering witchcraft!
🤬😭😂

the curse of the 8ball
a well known issue
I think it's not just nerves or a mental thing, although it is a mnetal thing in most cases.
but sometimes it's harder if the table lights are not great, as we may not see the black ball fully.
This is part of the reasons why I hate the Aramith Black set when playing 8ball, stripes are much harder.

Breathing.
Try stepping away from the table before you shoot the 8 ball. Take a deep SLOW breath, in and out, SLOWLY. Get down and shoot.

Maybe try and play shape?
Sounds like that might be the only thing that is not like the previous shots.
Pick an easy spot to get to after potting the eight and shoot with that spot in mind for the cue ball.
This x100.

Also, when you practice, spend 15 minutes with just the 8 on the table from various positions. Practicing shooting only the money ball for a period of time trains your brain that it is just another ball instead of the important one.

Always try and have two balls your playing shape to before the 8. Meaning if you come long on one shot or short on the other shot, your able to get in line with the other ball making that ball either a stop shot or an easy ball to make for shape.
Also make sure when your ''down and done'' you Only look at the 8 ball last.
