Best 1Pocket Player of the 80's - 90's

if the tip is delivered on-line and with proper speed what difference does it make how it looks? i've seen a LOT of 'pretty boy stroke' players come and go that couldn't play in crunch time. Allen was self-taught(got help from some greats as well) and could run 100 by the time he was 12-13yrs old. I'll take ugly and effective every time.

Of course, he gets the job done, but it just amazes me that he generated so much power with very minimal “wind up”- he mainly just used forward momentum. Very unique is all I’m saying- don’t think I’ve ever seen another player with a stroke like that

there was one edition of the dragon world 14.1 that had in it hopkins, ortmann and mike davis, and they were all playing on the tv table the same day. it was a parade of funky strokes.

modern era, i guess soufi, gerson martinez and lee van sticks out

Kinda like that Bruce Lee punch. I imagine not nearly as strenuous. Somebody on youtube said fast twitch is based on muscle strength. So, a weight trained body vs 2lbs of stick and ball, one quick rep at a time. Looks like too much wear and tear for whatever the gain.

I was able to watch much of Gerson's matches this year at the DCC. At first I thought WTF, and after three days I was a big fan.

If you ever watched him playing 9b he did tend to suffer on the 'big stroke' power shots. His little punch was ideal for 1p and 14.1.

everyone has a poke as your cue stops at the end of the backswing. so it goes forward just like his but his doesnt look smooth.
actually his has less components to go wrong.

both played near the top speed. at one pocket.
that would have been a very close matchup and not one that should be played. so when those kinds of games develop i am always very leery of them. but that aside many are fine, as players are not known for making smart moves.
