Where did that come from? Is that like green race car superstition? I like some green in the veneers sometimes and have a plain birdseye with green and white rings, a couple with white and green speck wrap. Had one with some malachite, but let it go; not sure I like the malachite in cues now.
Started with race cars for me. You need all the luck you can get, at least no bad luck. Fireball Roberts was killed driving a green car. Two other people at almost the same time both had green on their cars when they were killed or injured badly. It was twenty years or more before there was green on a stock car again. Freddy Fryer a legend short tracking that did a little big track and Indy driving was very superstitious about it. I have seen him load up all of his equipment and move to the other end of the pits because somebody parked a green truck next to his car. Peanuts are bad luck too. Somebody threw some peanut hulls in Freddy's car. Freddy knocked the offender ass over teakettle then made his crew take the seat out of his car and be damned sure there were no peanut hulls left in it.
I got caught late at my shop one day. Didn't notice I was wearing a green T-shirt until I got to the track. Couldn't buy a shirt without green. When I got home I threw away every piece of green clothing I had!
I have competed at many things including pool, rifles, pistols, cars, and more. No green to be found anywhere. I'm not superstitious but I am a little stitious! No sense taking chances. Fifty years later nothing I own is green, 'cepting a little cash. As much bad luck as I have trying to hold on to that pretty much proves the point!
A track wanted me to run a match race between me and the fastest car and driver in that part of the country. That could be embarrassing but I knew my car owner would be all for it. Sure enough Jr went for it. The other driver came to where I was parked. "No sense running hell out of the cars for six laps for a trophy, let's just run the last two. My car had a leaking head gasket so I was all for the idea.
We lined up and came around the track. As we came out of turn four the flagman threw the GREEN FLAG! Nothing happened. The next lap the flagman is jumping up and down and swinging the GREEN FLAG like he was trying to start the Indy 500. By the third lap just off idle the flagman was just letting the GREEN FLAG hang in despair and three thousand or so fans in the stands were talking about tar and feathers! I started the race with two laps to go and it was nip and tuck. I came in second as I did all night. Better car, better driver, over a hundred inch bigger engine, I was happy to stay on his back bumper as I did all night!

About ebony, I like the look, I don't like that it can be touched up with a sharpie. A long point can be wiped off of a cue in an instant sanding as it comes in from both sides and the bottom. A little work with a sharpie "fixes" the problem. The old masters knew this and it wasn't an uncommon trick. Somebody on here had a cue built by one of the old masters refinished in the shop of another cue builder that had been at it for many years. When the builder sanded the cue and found a point missing he used a sharpie and didn't say anything about it. Digital camaras and computer screens show things at 50x magnification that can't be seen with a 6x loupe. Major stink!
