New match. Me vs Farmer. He's the guy I beat 5 ahead in one hole for 4k per man a couple months ago. We are playing race to 4 for 100 in backpacket. Starting a few min.
I won the first set 4-0, and lost the second set 1-4. We called it even and quit for the night.

Playing again now Backpocket. R7 for 300 per man, and I bet 100 on the side. Sorry embedding isn't working. The quality should be good now.
I beat my man 7-5, after being up 6-1. I felt good the whole time, even while he was coming back. We played one set, will play again soon. I played to run out every rack this time. Smashed the rack pocketing balls, rather than play a softer break trying to move the 9 a few inches on my side which led to more safety innings. And during the game I went for the outs rather than 3 fouls. It worked.
There is another 1000 entry vegas event today and tomorrow. This one is a 1250 max partners. I looked at the calcutta list and noticed a few names that I believe are very underrated. So I said to myself if I can't beat them, I'll join them, and planned to bid. I was so mad at myself I dogged the bidding and the team I had as a huge favorite closed before I could bid. I did manage to bid on two other teams that each had one of the Filipinos that I saw play in person on the 2 I participated in, but I was outbid. So I'll put my 3 picks here and see how they do.
EDIT: Lucas wasn't able to make it and was replaced at the last minute. His original partner is still in with a new partner. So my #1 pick is no longer this team.
My #1 pick. Lucas is a kid, just turned 18. He regularly beats opponents in the 620 range. I don't think he's gaming the system at all, he's just young and getting good very fast. His partner I don't know, but a source told me he's about 700 speed. I put this team as #1 if my source is right. I was prepared to bid 2k on them, and it closed without me realizing it.
This is my #2 pick. Arnel got 3rd in the 578U I played in 2 years ago. He's a Filipino and was playing a level above the other players I saw. I commentated on one of his matches as well at that time. He's also entered a couple of the other 1000 entry events at higher caps, and cashed. I don't know his partner at all. I did bid on this but it got too high for my blood.
This is my 3rd pick. Joshua won the 567U in Jan of this year. He plays like a 650 from what I saw with my own eyes. I don't know his partner at all, but I'd figure someone way under the radar would seek similar from a partner. Now these two are WAY under the cap of 1250, which is not a good place to be for a 1000 entry capped event. They were at like 100 with 30 sec to go. I bid them up to 500 with the Tim person going back and forth. I finally bailed out at 500. If this pair was right at the cap I would have made them the favorites to win over Lucas' team.
I don't know any of the other players in the field. Its probably full of professional sandbaggers, haha. Doubles events are the best places for them to hide. So these picks might in reality be dogs. Of note, Joshua has his ratings public for this event, as its a requirement. I bet he turns it off again the day after.

Backpocket again. Same bet. R7 for 300, and I have 100 on the side. This time we are on the next table over, which has 4 month old cloth and 4 1/4" pockets, instead of 1 week old cloth and 4 1/8" pockets. So it will play tougher tonight.
I won 7-3. A buddy gave me some moving tips and they came into play immediately.

Yes, even. I couldn't figure out how he was beating me in the beginning, because I feel like I play way better. But he kept running out the 789 or outmoving me on the bare 9 the first session at 50 per game. I told him I'll never quit him. haha.
It was like his moving game was 3 times better than his 1-7 game.
He took 30 years off pool and just came back about 6 months ago. My thought process was either:
-He used to be pretty good and is still super rusty
-He's hustling
-His backpocket 9 ball game is legit way way way stronger than his normal game
-He just got lucky and was playing over his head

I won last night 7-6 for 100. Backpocket. It was a tough battle. I had the shakes and was overheating. I've had the same thing happen now about 4 sessions in a row on that table. I think its the AC doesn't get to that corner of the room and I overheat. It might also have been I didn't eat enough before going to the pool room. I ate I think 3 chomps meat sticks about half way through, but it wasn't enough to stop the shakes. I'll have to figure out what's going on with me.

IDK. Dad is type 1. I've been ok thus far over the years. He got it about my age though, I'm 47. I've half thought about stealing one of his sensors and wearing it for 2 weeks to see how it does.
My A1C is just within limits. I have bad eating habits as far as going a long time between meals. Sometimes I will go a full day without eating just because I was busy. For at least the last 20 years when I go a long time without eating I will get real shakey sometimes. My mom became insulin dependent with age so I often checked my blood sugar levels with her finger poker. I was almost always in the 90's before meals and 110/120 after meals.
How did this go
?Scotch Doubles is always tricky. Both players on your team have to play well individually and have good chemistry at the same time, for all say 7 - 10 matches of the whole tournament (around 50 - 70 games). Then you're also hoping the other team doesn't both catch a gear in those same amount of matches. The variance is just way too high.
When I bid, I usually prefer established pairs that have been playing together for a long time, knowing if one fucks up a shot, the other will curses him out but still gives him a pat in the back LOL, and each of the player must be able to run out.
