I think a lot of top players are getting their stuff for free.

And I still see high speed players using wood.

free stuff is NOT gonna help anybody win if the equipment is not good.
any sponsored player first test the equipment before signing anything and makes sure that the equipment is good enough for their needs.
some are going back but staying within the brand, like Biado that moved back to wood but stayed with Predator and Skyler that moved back to Avid but stayed with CueTec. there are more examples.
A lot of the players are using prototypes that are designed for them before hitting the market, so there is a joint effort, like the current Meucci CF shaft that Tyler Styer is using now, like the CueTec Cynergy that was developed with SVB, like the JFlowers SMO that was designed with Strickland, Morris and Orcollo, like Universal and Yapp and more.
So that excuse that they get free stuff so they have to play with it is simply invalid and wrong.
They get free stuff that they are comfortable with and feel and know that it's top notch and won't hurt their game.

The history of sports is littered with plenty of athletes/players that switched equipment for an endorsement and *never* played the same.

Hard to turn down the pay check and free equipment -- especially pool players who are not well compensated to begin with.

I had filler and dimitris and some other top players asking me about it at Arizona. They'll take off. It took a while for LD shafts to take off when they first came out.

You get the consistency of CF with very little power loss combined with the feedback and feel of the maple. Best of both worlds!!

I'm not a fan of carbon fiber, so I see no need to try Alex's. Especially at their price point.
I won't test drive a Ferrari either, even if I can afford it.
Just leaves one wanting...

Do you know how much the Ascension CF are? I would have thought that’s a Ferrari too (or maybe a custom super car).

At the Arizona open Corey was mentioning that he hardly recognized anyone there and that most them had no idea who he was. I think it was me, him, Max Eberle and Johnny Archer standing there. I said, "Yeah, unfortunately, we're the dinosaurs here. Most of the people here probably don't know that you were the original reason that they went to the nine on the spot either".

"Wood Feel".....that is a term that will be fading out.....Same thing happened in Golf in the 80s when the Taylor Made Burner came out....Very similar comments to this thread....just no internet back then. The term "metal wood" was always a bit funny to me.

I am not sure why there is this "feels like wood" race in the CF world......other than that is what the populous is familiar with and holding on to.....Eventually that will fade also and the CF will develop its own characteristics....One CF shaft will be more tuned for 1-pocket...another will be tuned more for rotation....wood feel will no longer be in the conversation.

However....good news is......I still have my old wood shaft I can pull out and play with whenever I feel the urge.

I didn't inquire further as to whether or not other varieties were available or their prices.
You might want to check online. Hope that helps.
It was a nice looking and very smooth stroking shaft. Even without a glove.Coloration was dark and consistent with no obvious twill weave pattern.

I'm not so sure the 'wood feel' thing is going anywhere anytime soon. The fact that major cuemakers are altering their CF production models to more closely mimic wood speaks volumes to me.

I already designed it. It's called the AEM shaft. It stands for adjustable end mass. You can dial it to the pivot point and deflection that you want. I've prototyped it and verified that it works.

Our high performance model is low deflection but with a more solid feel than the typical carbon fiber shafts. The Elevate model is $499 and the Zenith model is $549. Shafts are available in 11.8mm, 12.4mm and 12.8mm. The 11.8mm and 12.4mm are available in 29” and 30”. The 12.8mm is only available for the moment in 29”. Whitten tips are standard. When you say that your high performance model is low deflection, obviously there is measurement units for that, but were does it stands against the known brands? have you tested it?

really shouldn't be a big problem to standardize this whole low deflection thing in testing and measurements. I guess it's not the manufacturers best interest to actually get a measurable spec. Predator used to do it when there was no competition...
