Question ... about pool cue cases ... sorry for not being NPR

I posted this in the main forum but frankly I know/trust the folks around here so thought to ask the collective ...

Anyone have an opinion on the cases from lizardcuecase.com ?

I am looking for a new butterfly case and tripped on this outfit. Otherwise it might be a Cuetec or Predator or maybe McD. If this is way out of line here in NPR feel free to toss in random comments or jokes. Of course the problem with political jokes is sometimes they get elected.

Ya, they are different ... and their website is just bizarre ! They have the strangest descriptions of things. Specifically about these ugly "Vibrant" cases :

AVP- I haven't heard them mentioned recently. I have one by accident, got it with a cue. Pretty good case.

Longoni cases are excellent. 👍

So are JB, Volturi, and Castillo.

If I were in the market for one right now I would probably look at Castillo first. I did have one years ago and sold it. I rarely sell and I honestly don't remember having a good reason to sell it.

Why would I look at Castillo first? American made.

The thing about Castillo Butterfly cases, they Don't have 'Zippered' inserts!

Tiger & Longoni do!

98% of 3C players play with 'Rubber Grips', they don't slide well in sleeves!

Hence the 'Zippered' Butt sleeves!

Yes, big difference if one is using rubber grips.

Castillo has JBs lining, and I think they still make their own lining as well, I think the lining type is optional, but I haven't looked lately.

I would guess they would make a zippered lining if you want one. They are still a custom shop as far as I know.

Adrian Viagura introduced me, nice kid!

I normally play with 2-3 rubber grips!

More 'Precision/Control' of the cue!

That's what 'Feels' right my hand!

The more of the 'Grip Hand' on the cue with the meaty part of it the 'Less unwanted rotation' of the cue as the player follows-through!

You should know this, 98% of the 'Willie Hoppe Titlist' cues had 'Fat Leather Grips', but weighed 20-22 oz!

The Europeans 3C players have known this for 75 years, with rubber grips (determinded by length) a player can will add only 1/2 - 1.5 oz with 1-3 grips!

My cues without grips weigh 17-17.5 oz, with 3 grips 18.25-18.75 Total weight!

I have a number of original Hoppe cues, as well as a fair collection of "fat butt" antiques of various makes. So, yes I do know.

Pool cues have slimmed over the years.

Feeling right is important. I get that, no question.

My question is, if you want fatter, and you are having a cue made, why not just have it made fatter?

If I have a 3C cue made at 12mm at the tip (Conical) and 32-33mm at the end of the butt it would weight the same as the cues in the WH cues 30's - 50's!

John Guffey made me a 3C cue, having Never made one before wirh just my instuctions/specs over the phone!

It came out 98% perfect!

I played with Sang Lee in the World 3C teams (1993) Championships with it!

Even if the cue is solid BEM, plus I like the feel of the rubber grip!

I was a 'Finesse' player, Not a 'Power' Player like Harold Worst!

Even back when the Brunswick 3C tables (cloth/rubber) were much slower!

With modern coring techniques the notion that the weight is locked into how fat the butt is isn't true anymore.

EDIT: I realize the point may be moot because we are not talking about modern cues. So, if you were actively a pro today, would you maybe seek to have a fatter cue constructed that didn't need 3? Or would you like the option to change it up by adding or taking away layers anyway?

You won't find 2-3 cuemakers that can make a cue with My specs that is 496 grams!

Cored or Not!

Plus I believe the materials they use to 'Core/Stabilize' a cue is Heavier than the BEM!

ICBW!

Either way, as a 'Player' I know what I need/like/feel to play at the Top level!
