Question ... about pool cue cases ... sorry for not being NPR

You won't find 2-3 cuemakers that can make a cue with My specs that is 496 grams!

Cored or Not!

Plus I believe the materials they use to 'Core' a cue is Heavier than the BEM!

ICBW!

Either way, as a 'Player' I know what I need/like/feel to play at the Top level!
Well, I am a "cue guy". I know who can build what, and how. Sadly we have lost some wizards.

Coring can consistently reduce the BEM weight by 0.5 to 1.5 ounces depending on the bore diameter. BEM is best cored anyway.

But you responded before I edited so I will add that here:

EDIT: I realize the point may be moot because we are not talking about modern cues. So, if you were actively a pro today, would you maybe seek to have a fatter cue constructed that didn't need 3? Or would you like the option to change it up by adding or taking away layers anyway?

Longoni is Not a 'Modern' cuemaker?

Tiger is Not a 'Modern' cuemaker?

Theory is Not a 'Modern' cuemaker?

What do You t hink the 'Purpose' of coring a cue is?

Just to achieve the 'Correct' weight that the cuemaker couldn't obtain on the 'Natural'!

Maybe years ago there would be an 6"-12" Bolt Hole in cues, those cues 'Hit' hollow!

I solved that problem with a method I devised in 81!

Buy 'Cotton Ball' futures!

OK then.

Never mind.

Obviously you figured out carbon fiber butt coring in 1981.

Remarkable. McDermott was truly blessed. Just took some decades to apply it in 2019.

I Never figured out any carbon fiber butt coring in1981!
Oh.

Sorry.

I thought we were talking about modern cue makers lightening fatter butt cues.

I guess "modern" is relative.

You are a rep for McDermott and they were one of the pioneers of carbon fiber coring in production cues in 2019.

I was Not a Rep for McDermmott!

Ambassator 3C player!

And I'm up between 6-6:30 am to walk dogs!
Hey. I’m curious about what Doc asked you but you missed.

Would you have a cue made with a bigger butt so you didn’t need 2-3 grips….or do you like the feel of the grips so you would keep the butt thinner to use them?

Here Steve,

More 'Precision/Control' of the cue!

That's what 'Feels' right my hand!

The more of the 'Grip Hand' on the cue with the meaty part of it the 'Less unwanted rotation' of the cue as the player follows-through!

You should know this, 98% of the 'Willie Hoppe Titlist' cues had 'Fat Leather Grips', but weighed 20-22 oz!

The Europeans 3C players have known this for 75 years, with rubber grips (determinded by length) a player can will add only 1/2 - 1.5 oz with 1-3 grips!

My cues without grips weigh 17-17.5 oz, with 3 grips 18.25-18.75 Total weight!

Thanks for trying again. It's genuinely interesting.

I don't think he wants to answer directly.

The physics and geometry of cue control are pretty basic. It's basically why Earl infamously wrapped his cue handle up with duct tape and gawd knows what else.

Preferences are a lot more dynamic and interesting. I have been curious about trying a cue sleeve on a pool cue, and they are inexpensive. Just was never curious enough to bother. I don't really work on my game anymore, haven't for years. It's nice to just play without chasing all thar. My focuse is collecting, cue history, and cue knowledge now.

Be my guest, Please, explain what they are!

Or better yet, post a video/writings of Earl the Pearl explaining it!

Why? You just explained the pertinent matters.

I don't know that Earl ever realky explained it, but we all saw him do it.

What you explained did not address what he and I have asked. That's all.

Nobody said anything about knowing or explaining it better than you already did.

The question was about your preference.

I am curious if you like to change by adding or removing sleeves or if you set it and forget it. He reiterated the same question.
