Annoying resonant rattle/buzz coming from wrap area - please advise

Custom cue (>$500, <$1k), has a bit of an unpleasant sound that seemingly is generated from somewhere around the middle of the wrap, to maybe 4-5 inches above where the top of the wrap ends (bottom of forearm?). I removed the weight bolt this morning and that is not the culprit unfortunately..

Interestingly the sound is not present around the entirety of that area, maybe only one half of the entire "circle".

From what I can tell it doesn't occur when shooting but if I am waiting for my shot and tap the cue on the ground, or go to place the cue down, I will hear it fairly often.

I am attaching an audio file so you can listen. Note, from :17-:20 I am tapping a region of the cue that is unaffected and sounds normal (or as my other two, cheaper cues, do) Audio file here

Am I being a baby (probably lol)? Is this something that's even fixable? Is this a potential structural issue or just a bad resonance? I already had a problem with this cue from the manufacturer with a design element and had to send it back, so I am really loathing the whole situation. Thinking of just waiting for the next expo in PA and bringing it to their attention then.

Couldn't tell you, if that is it, it may be a small piece of threaded rod that wasn't glued properly, or if no rod used, something wrong with the wood tenon at the joint. You really need to contact the cue maker to see what they think it is, and if it is worth fixing given the price range of the cue. Are you checking for the sound with the shaft on? If so it may be the ferrule on the shaft even though you say it's the butt area.
I would contact the cue maker and not wait till the next expo. A reputable maker would want to make that right. Just call them up and see what they say. That really should be the first thing to do.

Nah, that's with the shaft off. It is certainly the butt, sans weight bolt, unfortunately. I'll send over a message to them and will keep you guys updated. Thanks again.
 
No, you aren't being a baby. It is a common problem for beginning makers, but if one gets a dozen cues under their belt and is still having the problem, they either don't care or shouldn't be making cues.

It generally is as @muskyed said, but maybe a problem with the wood in handle or forearm.
 
Its not the A joint connecting threads, its the face where the handle meets the forearm. There are a few reasons it can happen. One, the joint can be glue starved. Another can be temp/humidity changes. Or Trauma. Etc...

Is it fixable? Yes. I've done many over the years. Is it worth the expense? No. Not if it isn't affecting the way the cue plays.

The cue is under warranty through the maker so I suppose it is up to their judgment if it demands a tweaking. If a $100 Viking doesn't have the issue, I don't see why a new $500 custom should.
