PBS Women's 9 Ball World Championship

From the announcers, it seems Jasmin lost her luggage, cues included. So she's playing in borrowed clothes and with an assumed to be borrowed cue.

She looks a touch off, particularly on longer shots. Against some first-round opponents it might not matter. Against Siming Chen...

(Jasmin is up 2-1 somehow.)

I've never seen this Constantino woman play before, she seems pretty good. Aggressive opening shot to begin a runout after a dry break from Seoa.

in the team event, who is naoyuki playing with? he looks like a veteran chainsmoker

also why is spain fielding 3 guys? what money they win they have to split 3 way

AI propagation algorithm. Possible anyway. Humans couldn't resist regardless...
It is nothing to do with AI, it is just how probability works. If only 16 players get seeds and many top players are not included, you are practically guaranteed some of them facing off against each other early.

Very tough field. Best to avoid the B side here. I like the format. I always prefer sixteen qualifiers to thirty-two.

Some of these ladies I'm not familiar with are playing quite well.

Jasmin has already been sent to side B by Julia Permata Sari from Indonesia.

The depth of the fields in top level women's pro pool is on the rise for sure.

We noted how the same happened in men's pool about ten years ago when the game went virally global. We noted that we might never see a rivalry like Varner and Sigel again, and that years like Varner 1989 and Immonen 2009 might never be duplicated. The fields are just too strong and too deep for that right now.

In women's pool, one must wonder whether anything approaching a Fisher/Corr rivalry will ever be seen again. Things are very even at the top of women's pool, and nobody dominates at the majors. Even players other than the top few
have been breaking through, with Margaret Fefilova-Styer and Pia Filler memorably capturing majors in 2026.

Yes, in both men's and women's pro pool, there's less dead money at the majors than ever before. As I fan, I like it.

How do the teams get picked? I'm a fan of Ryan Hsu's game but I feel like it's been forever since I've seen him in international competition. He's one of dozen of elite Taiwanese players, so I wonder how they chose him out of that group.

AI search suggests it’s WPA rankings, performance in PBS events and perhaps sponsors exemptions. Not sure how much of that is true, because it didn’t lead me to a definitive source.

Looking at the WPA rankings, it seems possible that Hsu was the second highest ranked player when the teams were entered (I don’t know the cut off dates). Little Ko might have been higher but probably elected to play Duya instead. You can look at the WPA website and see the rankings on various dates.

When I was surfing Prime Video for something to watch, this caught my eye. Wow! Live at 10 p.m. EDT. I was unable to watch it, past my bedtime. I'm just impressed how pool is starting to gain momentum in sports. This was actually categorized in the sports section. Yay!
