The very first glimpse of AI run-out intelligence

If AI is so intelligent, why has AI not figured out how to kill off CANCER? ASL, Diabetes, Heart Disease, and a long lot of Bad things that happen to people?

Because science isn't the same as magic, and learning is incremental? Just because you don't have a future, doesn't mean there won't be one.

Jonas Salk made Polio disappear, and did not turn his vaccine into a Money Machine for him personally.

This has been my goal since developing my software over 2 years ago.

Note: It's very early, so the suggestionss it offers will improve over time with reinforcement learning.

First, I think it could really shorten the learning curve for beginners, and help more advanced players to learn better routes (instead of just doing what they are comfortable with...), like learning routes that bring them down the target line, etc.

Second, I would love to see it bridge the gap between a rotation game (the next ball is known and there is less traffic) and 8-ball (so many balls could be the next ball, and there is considerable traffic).

Also think of absolute beginners… people who have never thought about the concept of positioning the cue ball at all. Never knew anything beyond making balls disappear. This visually shows how to think and can generate interest and brand new players.

The camera must be centered above the table? Won't most lights get in the way?
Traditional pool table lights that are centered over the table (and relatively low) won't work.

Either your own even lighting around the table, or ideally a perimeter light (purchased new or DIY'd) is the best option.

Lol! The first responders are the same group of people that sit on the internet in the middle of the day, squawk and then fly away like a bunch of seagulls. They haven’t made anything creative in their life, or have the desire to imagine how it could benefit anyone other than themselves. Garczar is always sitting in the middle, fattest of them all.

This is such a revolutionary tool that you made, and the future of pool looks fantastic!
I see future champions huddled over their tables working out tough run scenarios with full projection AI displaying patterns and options - on table - for them to work on, Digiball close at hand.😉
Follow the dots.
Paint by number.
Rinse repeat.

Big pharma is already using AI for drug development.

Big pharma has zero impetus to slow progress on drug development. Treatments and cures are hotly pursued.

You provided a lie, not an honest answer.
They don't want cures. No money in cures, that's the vast majority of medicine now. They keep you alive, but sickly enough to keep needing their medication, when most people could just fix their issues with diet and lifestyle changes.

We cure over 55% of cancers today and more every year.

If you create a cure, people still get cancer to cure. Plenty of money in cures.

You are spreading lies and definitelynot pool related. Maybe best if the thread gets moved to NPR.

The OP isn’t even the one that brought up pharmaceuticals. It’s best if this pool thread stays where it is and you move back to NPR lol

By the way he is also correct about diet. That is probably the number one health driver, even more than exercise.

There are many practical uses for ai. Today, ai built me a very complicated macro driven xls that would have taken me a week to write on my own. The other day it wrote me a set of purchasing terms and conditions I would have paid a lawyer $7,500 to write. That's just to name a few.

So... you need the software, perimeter lighting, a projection system, perhaps some kind of computer/internet interface, and shipping.

What are you thinking the cost is going to end up?

Gotcha. That makes sense. But, unfortunately, it will probably limit your sales since many will not replace their lights to use your system.

Really? Do you think it's just old dudes that aren't exactly thrilled where WE are heading with AI this and AI that? It's most certainly not. Most high school and college kids are very anxious about where we are going.

"The future of pool looks fantastic."

Why? Because of AI and the never-ending march towards perfection on the pool table. Is that it? If so, it's a big no thanks for me.

We are all going to have decisions to make in the very near future about why we even bother playing the game. If technology can be used to turn everyone into a 100 plus ball runner, will there be any value in running 100 balls?

In fairness, my comments aren't really directed at the OP and his creation, it's just a commentary on sports in general. I guess you can call me a simpleton since I'd much rather play catch in the backyard with my son, while listening to the sound of laughter and the ball smacking the leather, than bothering to hook him up to an AI aided ipad to diagnose and correct his throwing motion. What's it all for???

In sports, we are going to quickly have the naturals and the techno savants. The naturals will be horrible and mocked for their lackluster play, but their path may be the right one.

I for one think it would be amazing for some AI software to be developed in conjunction with AI glasses that gave you a hud display showing you where to aim, speed calculations, and target spots/positions for your next shot. It would be an amazing training tool, but like anything, players would still have to ultimately put in the time and work to train their eyes and muscle memory.

If thousands of people want projection only systems (ICATS and PPB), more would want this. Fortunately, I'm starting to see some exciting traction.
Good luck. Hopefully your work pays off.

Two words: dumb ass 😂

It’s always mystifying to see how someone with enough smarts to do something like this can have such moronic, easily disprovable opinions. It’s a free country though!

I think it's cool. Especially as it gets better.

I remember playing scotch doubles with a good player when I could barely run a few balls. He showed me what to shoot and where to go. We ran a few racks that day. Opened up my mind to what I was capable of. All I needed was for him to tell me what to do and the belief that he was right.
Changed the game for me.

I am just old enough to have seen a little old school....and young enough to be new school....I got too see the days of old school before cell phones when the wife could not call you at any given moment....Pool rooms with the horse track betting window. The guy with the cup of coffee and lucky strike hanging out of his mouth going through the paper handicapping the races...The hookers hanging out in the parking lot. Ash trays in the corner pockets....The unknown road player coming in acting like the foolish young kid that does not know how to play only to be a world beater. Hanging out on the elevated rail of the pit table at the Golden 8-ball watching money matches between two world beaters that "just happened" to be there....The hand made custom cues with shafts from special wood so old it came from the cross of Jesus...and the "technology" of the day was that the more rings it had the better it was...(supposedly)....buying "milk duds" at the corner table like some kind of drug deal from the old timer that makes the "good ones"

The old school in me wants to hold on to those days and bring back the nostalgia.

The new school in me loves new technology...and hope I live long enough to see the next "new" technology.
