Traveling with your cue

I've used one of these, packed my cue case and all my other stuff in there. Worked great.

I wish I saw that earlier, looks like a well built travel duffel. Too bad I just ordered an aluminum one with snap locks, I got fed up with luggage zippers, they tend to fail a lot, and I hate the expandable flop of the middle section. At 230 sale price it's not too bad.

I have traveled all over with this bag, has a shoulder strap too.

It holds a hard case, jeans, shirts, and underwear.

What's not to like.

except that tsa will not let you take a cue on the plane most times. so you have to check it.

why not just pay the 35 bucks to check a bag that is hard sided and then dont worry.

or fly first class and get luggage free and a nice roomy flight with good food.

Surprised this hasn’t been mentioned, but Pagulayan is selling his Tallmade cases. You can fit your case in easily and have room for your clothes etc. It has good wheels and is designed so it doesn’t trigger any oversized baggage charges. You can even fit 2 cue cases in if needed.

They aren’t cheap but they appear to be well made (I’ve seen them in person) and if you travel a lot for pool I’d say it’s worth it.

The top pros are traveling most every week to tournaments. I doubt they are mailing their cues. How do they do it? While I'm sure it has happened, you just don't hear much talk about losing their cues, in fact, I always see them with their normal pool cases propped up next to them on the streams. They travel all the time and do it with their normal pool cases, so how do they check them in on a plane? I don't think this is such a big deal as some make it out to be.

It just happened to Jasmin in Bali. Her cues and clothes were lost (or at least delayed) and she was playing in the World 9b with borrowed equipment.

This has happened to others. I know a Canadian junior who’s cues were lost for days on trip to India. It’s definitely happened to pros on other occasions. Unfortunately no case can solve this, although I do have air tags in my cue case to help if they go missing!

for my thoughts. if checking a bag why not check one big enough for all you want to bring. and the larger the bag the less likely it will get crushed or stolen.

and why pay triple price for one that really has nothing to do with pool cues that any solid bag will do the same. but more.

There is enough room in the Tallmade for anything I’d want to bring for a week of pool.

The only reason to go for it over a larger suitcase is because you may well have to pay oversized suitcase charges. If you travel a fair bit you will probably save money in the long run with the skinnier suitcase Alex is selling.

in the u.s. there is a charge for "any" checked bag. 45 bucks. and it is very large what for a pool player needs. you get a total of 62 inches total. and 50 pounds.

so you can take your gold bar along as well.

Yes, that's why it has a lock on it.

I bought one of these for when I'm flying with my cues:

I thought that at 32", it was going to hold my case and cues, and I wanted to avoid paying oversize fees by going with this size, but the cue case is just a bit too big to fit inside, even diagonally. I've been taking my cues out (player and break cue) and laying them inside the lower area of the duffel, padded by my clothes. They lie nicely beside the two support rods for the extension handle. I take everything out of the cue case, and put that stuff into the duffel for travel too. My cue case, which is a fairly plain, two-pocket top loader, will slide underneath the two top handle loops, with one handle positioned over the larger lower pocket, and one between the upper and lower pockets, essentially locking it into place. It actually helps stabilize the duffel when I have it standing up on end, and I'm using the extendable handle to pull it around. I've travelled with my equipment like that eight times in total so far, with no damage, and no real issues, except for a return trip from Vegas this past August. The agent for Southwest at Harry Reid seemed to think it wasn't OK to have my cases attached like that, and wanted to issue a separate baggage tag (and fee). We had a discussion about it, she called her supervisor, and he had her tag the both of them separately, despite them being physically attached, and let it go with a single fee. When I arrived home, and my baggage came out on the conveyor belt, someone had separated them, and both had to be picked up individually.

That Pagulayan Tallmade case looks really nice, seems to stay below the oversize fees, and lets one keep the case and contents intact. Might need a better carry-on for the extra clothes needed on longer stays, but that's not a bad idea anyway. Seems like an asking price in line with other options too. I'd like to see one in person.

Back in the day when I used to fly to Vegas for BCA....and for a couple years I was going once a month for work....I just used a baseball bat bag....put the cue case in and then filled it up with shoes clothes etc. It was the only bag I needed to check. It had a ring that the zipper tab would fit in and I could have put a lock on it....but then I would have lost the key or forgot the combo.....so I just used little zip ties

We we're visiting some friends in Ottawa and he has an old Trophy snooker cue he was giving me. I said I can't take it on the plane and didn't want the hassle checking it in baggage. When i was going thru the x-ray machine they spotted something in my nether region and had to go thru twice. I said I had an artificial unit in my bag lol. The bitch had no sense of humor and they swabbed my hands and groin area.
