Phillipines Open

I think first the USA has to prove they can win against Europe, or else what's the point of changing Reyes Cup to be Asia vs winner of MC. We all know it would be Asia vs. Europe every year.

But I suspect if USA manages to win this year and next, they may go that route.
Well, that might encourage them to put the effort in... Might also encourage Matchroom to rethink the criteria for selection to actually give US players the relevant aspirations

I think a lot of that has to do with Matchroom making the pockets 4 inches. Players are far more robotic now and put a stronger emphasis on PSR or lining up a shot because anyone is liable to miss. I don't think we will see too many players like Shaw, Drago, Strickland, etc. in this modern era with super tight pockets. There's just too much margin for error. Heck, even Vogel and Shaw played slow in their match.

Bring back normal sized pockets. Make pool exciting again.
I think Vogel shot himself in the foot deliberately slowing it down, and I think Shaw let him know that at the end of the match...
I think 4" is the way to go. Shot clocks for all matches. It can't be that hard to implement in the age of "tech"

Worst pocket geometry I have ever seen, miss a ball into an open pocket by 1/4" and it hangs, shoot ball down the rail off by 6" and it drops. This is not 9 ball.
That's typical for new cloth. A ball going for the corners usually has more distance to get hooked up, even on slippery cloth. You can hit the side rails closer to the side and steeper than you might think because the ball will bend more easily. That plus the running english the ball picks up, kills it on the open facing and spins it in when it hits the opposite facing. (yeah I know, give or take some fractions and speed on your GCs and Diamonds)
Also you miss by a quarter inch dead on, you deserve to miss.

I agree. I can’t see anytime soon.

I think Baseth caught a break on that last game. The 2 ball was going to rest up against the 9 ball, after the break, but it rolled back off the template giving him just enough room to make the 2 in the side past the 9.

Quite the collapse by Van Boening. Lots of mistakes in the final racks. Mocaibat got a lot of luck and some early 9 balls, but SVB still should have won.

Good to see Chua back and playing great. Hard to pick a winner here.
