Spectator tickets go on sale on Nov. 3rd (one week), and player entries start on Nov. 10th.

Room reservations at the Caesars Southern Indiana (formerly Horseshoe) are not available yet. EDIT!!! Rooms are mostly sold out already -- that's why they wouldn't show me any.

I see that the nine ball has been changed from a race to 9 to a race to 8. That should help with the schedule. The finals will be like last year -- extended race but no buybacks (if one is left). I guess the finals will all be on Sunday, but I couldn't find a mention of that.

lol. The rooms are sold out. Got one for the first night of the 9 ball but have to stay somewhere else the night before.
My wife tried on the puter then ended up calling and lucked out. Good luck

so you run a tournament in a place where the rooms are sold out 3 months in advance? i dont get it.

doesn't the venue reserve enough rooms for all players and spectators for at least a time so they can come.

time to get big tournaments back to vegas. where you can get rooms and bring friends and family having other things to do rather then just watch pool. or be in a dive casino.

The group booking code for rooms at the host hotel was on the Derby City Classic website in early September, which is when I booked my room. I'd be surprised if they are already sold out, but I guess it is possible.

Oops. I thought they just hadn't opened them up yet.

There are links on the DCC web page to two other hotels in New Albany that are about a 15 minute drive -- Holiday Inn Express and Hampton Inn. The Hampton Inn is slightly cheaper. They're both by a Waffle House. If you have a car, lots of other hotels are available in a 30-minute drive. There's a Raddison pretty close that's under $100/night, but the reviews explain why. ;)

The current posted player entry limits are:
Banks -- 476
One Pocket -- 400
Nine Ball -- 500

I like staying off property myself. Yes, I can't just run take a quick nap in the room but I also don't have the incessant draw of the casino that gets the better of me more often than not. To be able to get away easily is clutch, FOR ME. I also like being closer to more food options as we all know how poor those are on property. See you guys there...
Likewise. Even when I played, I still stayed off site.

I think I did 20+ Derbys going back to the EW.

The EW was flat out fun and I obviously stuck with the new joint for many years, cashing several times in the 1pocket and even making it to something like the last 18. However, as they allowed the tournament to grow without limiting entries, given the number of tables they could cram in, it became less and less fun. One year I zoomed in bright and early only to learn I would not play until morning the next day. The following year I am inbound on the river road to the casino and look at the online scheduling and find out I'm playing the first round and have 25 minutes to get my badge and get to my table. It's so crammed that unless you get up in the middle of the night, like 4am, it's impossible to get a table to gamble or practice on.

AND THEN they started limiting the food available. For a while there was an Asian joint that was pretty good, a burger joint, and then they down sized to an Asian booth, and then the last time I went even that was closed. I ended up eating at the steak house because it was the only decent food though stupid expensive.

The last few years I'd get there and would, literally, sit in my room and tell myself to record a video to my future self who would be entertaining going to the Derby and tell them, "Don't do it. It sucks and it is not worth it." I never did the video but did finally listened to my past self and have found other things to do like the Railyard Mini Deby, the International Open (finished tied for 12th), or just go down to Buffalo's in May and eat great food in New Orleans and sweat the big 1pocket.

I appreciate what Greg & Co. have done but it's not for me anymore. I am a much happier camper now not going.

Many old school road players got used to sleeping in their cars if they got tapped out. Might be an alternative to those larcenous room rates.
For those that booked when the 2027 Group code was first shown on the Derby City website in early September, the group rate for rooms is $155/night. Is that larcenous? If money is tight, I would expect one to have a roommate and each would pay under $100 per night.

Actually, $155 is cheaper than any nightly hotel rate I paid this year with respect to attending other pro pool events. My UK Open hotel room cost more, My US Open 9ball hotel room cost more, My Turning Stone hotel room cost more, My Las Vegas Open hotel room cost more. Is this rate really out of bounds?

Yes, hotel rooms used to be cheaper all over the place. Even so, one need not stay at the host hotel if they'd rather not and there are cheaper rooms elsewhere.

I wish everyone best of luck in securing a room at an acceptable nightly rate. The Derby City Classic is not to be missed.
