CJ Wiley: flat earther

If the Earth is flat, then what does the bottom of the Earth look like? Are there people there? Do they all walk upside down? Does gravity work in reverse?

Backwards reels the mind.

Good post. Two things that are true: a) there are things we don't yet understand (Stonehenge and the Pyramids are good examples) and b) some of what we think we know will be proven incorrect sometime in the future, much in the way that Copernicus proved in 1543 that the widely accepted geocentric model of the universe was in error and needed to be replaced by a heliocentric model.

Still, we're not debating the origin of the earth or the universe here, just the shape of the earth. We have been photographing the earth from space for over sixty years and there are so many images suggesting a basically spherical shape that it is hard to reach any other conclusion regarding its shape.

Is it possible that we're wrong and that the many such photos are a cosmic ruse that has misled us? Yes, it is, but we tend to reach our conclusions based on the evidence in front of us, so at least for now, the earth is round.

Unless it's possible that pool balls are flat, however, this thread is not pool related,

In His Own Image
Still, round or what, is a visual thing. We are told light goes in your eyeballs which end up making electrical signals which your brain has visual centers to decode, make the picture, etc...

So what is it we see?

Once we realize that our eyes don't see and our ears don't hear we can go down some really weird rabbit holes. There are people that see music and/or hear things they should see if they were like everyone else.

It is more accurate to think of our senses as sensors like thermometers and flow meters and such and our nerves as cables. Our brains are the processors.

Once we realize these things are true we start opening up possibilities. We may find ourselves in some very odd places in a few hundred years.

In one respect I don't believe in the supernatural. I do believe there is a lot of the natural that we don't understand yet. One day our descendants will be laughing at how backwards we were!

seems to me that most conspiracy believers
suffer from extreme and dangerous levels of sobriety

you need a martini, and then we’ll talk
My kind of martini comes straight out a jar of dill pickles. Vodka optional. I read Roman soldiers drank something like it probably for oral hygiene - called it posca. It's good sippin' stuff. :ROFLMAO:

Millions of years ago homo sapien stumbled out of a cave and figured out the earth was round using sticks and shadows.

Yet here we are with these people among us.

Once you are on record saying that the earth is flat you have instantly lost all debates past, present and future. On all subjects. No exceptions.
Yet this guy & company developed some pretty elaborate superstitions. These are sentients that indeed could not eat drink pis etc... anything that wouldn't keep 'em alive.

as the fools we are, if we cannot understand something, it makes one think less of ones self. so innately we need to invent some reason for what we don't understand. and what we invent makes us look even more stupid.

Broadly speaking, there are two competing approaches to explaining the universe and everything. One approach is to start with the assumption that matter and spacetime are fundamental, and everything arises from them. The other approach is to assume consciousness is fundamental, and matter and spacetime arise from it. The vast majority of scientists make the former assumption, and have for centuries. Collectively, they've had zero success explaining any specific conscious experience. On the other hand, some scientists starting their research with the latter assumption have had success explaining how spacetime could arise from consciousness, as well as explaining some quantum scatterings with much simpler equations.

Possibly and yet why is the occult practiced all over the world and in all walks of society?

I first dealt with a haunted house when I was six years old, long before my first horror movie or ghost story. Lots of things that couldn't be explained then or now! I stayed up until after 2AM to watch the end of my first horror movie. One of the wax museum movies, I forget which then. I was the only one awake or in the living room. That movie was so scary I had to hide behind my dad's big recliner to watch it!(grin) Scared me mightily.

I have had premonitions a handful of times. The first when I was fifteen, maybe sixteen. I was playing pool in a place near the house and I couldn't shake an uneasy feeling. I went the mile or two home and got my pool cue which I never normally carried.

When I got back I got my cue butt out but still didn't put it together and play with it. A little later three guys I had gotten in a fight with showed up. Also there was William, a fairly recently retired pro boxer who was seeing a dancer that was somebody's ex wife. I knew the girl slightly, and I had played pool with William many times.

Next thing I knew, William and I were against an old stage in the back of the place. I had the butt of the across my chest like a baton and William was alongside me.

Things cooled off after awhile, I was looking pretty ready with the cue and more importantly William wasn't a picnic for anyone to take on. After five or ten minutes the people in the back of the crowd were pushing forwards and the people in front were obviously leaning backwards to not get pushed into William or my cue. William beat twenty-four men arm wrestling later when things calmed down, some multiple times, some with both hands. I faded with some friends I had made that night. Funny thing, neither William or any of those men had been in the place when the uneasy feeling settled on me.

I got that same feeling a half dozen more times. Sometimes I knew why later, sometimes I never knew. However, when I got that feeling of dread I bailed without question. Sometimes we know something without knowing why. Occult probably isn't the answer, I don't know. My guess is a sense we have that isn't recognized yet. Can't rule out the occult though and sometimes it is a matter of when in doubt get the hell out!

I think it is even simpler than that, type A and type B people. How many serious pool players do you know that are good at taking orders or working on a team? I worked OK on a team because I cut out my own task or tasks. I was fine with somebody over me giving a task, not so good if they tried to micromanage the task.

I can't think of a single dedicated pool player that I would call a type B personality. Same with circle track racers, and competition shooters. They are fine with them against the field, not so good on a team. We did well with the Mosconi Cup because we were much better players early on. When european skill caught up a little bit then their much better ability to function as a team got us in trouble and keeps us in trouble. Hard to battle somebody for every dollar for years and then be pardners. The US guys and gals can't do it. We are citizens, not subjects. As my friend in Scotland used to tell me all the time, that is a big difference!

What he said.

he is right about an advanced civilization 20,000 years ago.

its called the natives and indians and such that lived then.

they had good family values and only took from the land what they really needed not wasted all the resources. and did not need all sorts of gimmicks and gizmos to occupy their time.
All hunter gatherer societies function in this manner.

The way I see it is that God has made everything and he has made them spectacular in fashion . It would be a simple task for Him to align the Moon, the Earth and the Sun so that they move about our solar system as they do right now. To Him it is as easy as 1 + 1 = 2. How somebody can believe the Earth is flat when every other planet in the solar system is round , including the moons of every planet ! No I don't trust the government , they lie often times to gain money, power, and control. I am skeptical as to the government's claim covid-19 and especially it's vaccination shots, it doesn't take much to believe that they wanted to eradicate much of the population for their comfortability . I do not trust politicians , right and especially the left , because they are all bought and paid for by big Pharma and the likes .
Don't flat earthers use the Bible, old testament, to justify their beliefs??

Heuristics clogs the machine.
