    Don Mackey Back?

I suspect the more discerning ex-PBTers in that photo are already asking who owns all those matches that are going to be digitized and how they as individuals stand to make money from them. What, if anything, did it take to get Sigel, Davenport and Pierce to associate their names with this...

    Appleton Suspension?

Re: ball colors. Seeing better is not the same as understanding better. They want to make it easier for the audience to understand what's going on on their tv screens? They achieve the exact opposite, because the audience is overwhelmingly people who play pool with the traditional colored balls...

    Thicker shaft produces more deflection?!

Thanks to all, esp. Dr. Dave. I've been made a believer. Imagine a guy, average build, wearing, say, round toed brogues, kicking a soccer ball (with his toe) at the point we would call right side english. The ball squirts left. Then another guy, same height and weight, and wearing the same size...

    Thicker shaft produces more deflection?!

Johnny, doesn't the bending of a wood shaft have an impact on deflection? If not, what's the point of a laminated predator or a carbon fiber shaft?

    Thicker shaft produces more deflection?!

A friend who follows this forum regularly has just informed me that it is accepted wisdom that a 13 mm shaft will produce more deflection than the 12-plus shafts currently popular. Is this true, what is the explanation for it? Seems to me tha,; all other things being equal, a stronger piece of...

    Straight Pool Rules Question

Good question(s). I figure the only alternative to making a legal foul is to incur a foul that constitutes unsportsmanlike conduct, which would presumably incur a penalty assessed by the referee, or a warning. But the rule books seem sorely lacking on the whole question.

    Straight Pool Rules Question

I agree that's the other side of the coin, Mick. I see it as, what's the minimum effort required to execute an intentional foul? Seems the bottom line is that the rules don't answer the question from either perspective.

    Straight Pool Rules Question

This post is about taking intentional fouls in straight pool, which is perfectly legitimate and part of the game. If a forward motion of the cue is all that's required to intentionally foul, then I guess there is no requirement for the cue ball to strike another ball. Which was the original...

    Straight Pool Rules Question

The question at hand is, in 14.1, what constitutes a legal intentional foul? Does the cue ball have to move and contact something; does the cue ball have to move but it doesn't matter whether it contacts anything or not; or, can one intentionally foul simply by touching the cue ball with the cue...

    Trophy Points

Can anyone tell me what Trophy Points mean in the context of this forum? I assume it's explained somewhere on the site, but I can't find it. Thanks.

    Jumping up on shots, reconsidered.

Thanks, Jay. Couldn't agree more, but my post was speculating about why one sometimes jumps up.

    Jumping up on shots, reconsidered.

That's fascinating. Gotta experiment with that.

    Jumping up on shots, reconsidered.

(Editing this on Tuesday.) Thanks for all the responses, but I must not have been totally clear, so I'll try to clarify. I understand that jumping up is not a good thing, that after contact it's a moot point, and that some great players move on the shot. No arguments there. I'm just curious...
