Do you tip a TD who also played in the event?

I personally like to tip the TD, merely because they make sod all cash out of the day otherwise and I appreciate them putting the tournament on. That being said, I understand how people don't like the gesture, as it could lead to favoritism on calls or the draw. Speaking as someone who is...

    rankings in leagues

Although a small table is a leveler, I have rarely seen one of the "lower" 7's beat one of the monsters or even the 7's below that, i.e. the A 7's. I do understand why it is capped at 7 though, as pushing the handicap even one extra level can add a significant time to the end of the night. It...

    rankings in leagues

Some higher level players in NYC play APA 8 Ball in the city. I wont name names, but there are A+ and Open players from Society and Amsterdam who play APA 8 Ball. What is a weird situation is that an APA SL7 can be anywhere from a C+ to an Open player in the BCA leagues in the city. This means...

Makes ya wanna quit the game and go bowling

Snooker is popular in Europe, as it is a game that is easily accessible to the general public, everyone can play it to some degree, it is a game that anyone can get decent at and it is widely televised in Europe. The gambling aspect has nothing to do with its popularity in Europe. On top of...

Makes ya wanna quit the game and go bowling

Erm.... didn't Allison Fisher dominate women's pool for the best part of a decade? Steve Davis never played much pool, as quite frankly there is no money in it. I am not saying he would have had the same affect on pool as he did snooker, but there has never been an incentive for any top snooker...

2012 World Snooker Championships Starts Saturday

Thanks Thank you for all the info. Who is your tip for the title this year? I would love Ronnie or Trump to win it, but i think it will more likely be Higgins or Robertson.

Learning to play with the opposite hand?

If you have someone else who is trying to learn this as well, try playing a type of one man scotch doubles I.e. switching hands for every shot. That way you will also improve your positional play and decision making as you won't want to leave yourself a difficult "other hand", shot. Just an idea.

Do you realie that Aiming is Intuitive???? (Type 1)

Excellent comment, I think you are spot on with your point. That being said, I am a pretty much a pure shot maker, so basically my game sucks.

    Women pool players

Good point There definitely seems to be a higher percentage of women players in the US than in the UK. I used to play in an English 8 ball bar league in England and I think there were about half a dozen women players out of about 80 players in the league. There were no women snooker players in...

    VNEA-BCA rules question

Agreed Jude, it is always better to err on the side of caution when it comes to rules. I saw a guy try and pull the "he left his cue on the table while aiming" move in Staten Island a few weeks ago and thankfully the TD sided with the player shooting. I was on the next table and to the letter...

What is the one thing you did that improved your pool game a lot?

Re-setting myself It has been mentioned on here by someone else, but the number one thing that improved my game was learning to reset myself and walk back in to the shot if I am not comfortable.

Snooker table game rules, rule books?

Agreed it is a great game, you explained it more concisely than me. Did you play that you could only shoot the colour nearest the cue ball? as that is a key rule in the way that we played.

    VNEA-BCA rules question

A friend of mine got knocked out of the BCA National 8 Ball Open Singles because of this rule last year as the ref said it was foul and he lost the game because of it. The ref was wrong on that occasion (whatever way you look at it), as he did not even let go of his cue!

Snooker table game rules, rule books?

The Rules to Crash These are the rules to the game of Crash as I played it. • To play you need a set of snooker balls and cards numbered 2-7. • You can have up to 6 players playing, but under 3 is not as much fun. • The object of the game is to sink your ball on a legal shot or to make 15...

Gracious in victory, gracious in defeat

This is basically how I act and feel as well. Oh and in terms of commenting during a match, I might say "nice run out", as i am racking if a player has made a particularly good out. I think that shows respect for your opponents game.

    Thinking about a Schon...

Love it I love my Schon. I am not a big fan of fancy cues or of changing cues uneccessarily. On a side note, i must admit I was surprised by how good a Lucasi Hybrid felt that I won in a raffle the other week, they are extremely well balanced. Still not changing it for my lovely Schon though.

Gracious in victory, gracious in defeat

It seems to me, that certain players deem it a weakness to be gracious in defeat, rather than accept that your opponent out played you. I myself feel as though I am a "good loser", but I am also very aware of being a modest winner when I do win. As someone who plays decently, but is missing...
