Did I take up the wrong sport?

There is nothing wrong with the sport, the format of the sport, or the enjoyment we get out of the sport. What is wrong with the sport is the organization driving it ... there isn't one. Pool fanatics like to think it is because people don't understand the sport and it is not good for TV. If...

    Dazzling 9-ball comeback. Extremely exciting Davenport/Archer 1995 race-to-11

Great This was a great match from the best era of pro pool in my opinion. I watched a lot of pool in those years, but had never gotten to see much of Kim Davenport since there was no youtube and we were dependent on either going to tournaments or hoping for ESPN to televise something. This...

    Ronnie O'Sullivan - Running

I have been a life long runner (5 marathons and Boston). I have also played pool for 26 years. I don't think that running specifically improves your pool game, but it sure doesn't hurt. I do believe now more than ever that maintaining your fitness level and weight will enable you to continue...

Entertaining One Pocket video ... must see.

For those of you new to one pocket, you should watch this. I think it will give you an appreciation for this game. For those of you old timers with one pocket, you may have already seen this but will still get a kick out of it. I don't know what I found the most entertaining part ... the...

Expensive tips are such hype - a video!

A couple of comments to your post: 1) Your comment, "expensive tips are for vanity" is a sweeping statement that makes no sense. Do you really think all players buy tips because of what others will think of them? People could care less what kind of tip I have on my cue. And even then...

    Great story on Orcollo ...

You can get 'em from Cuetec ;).

    Great story on Orcollo ...

No. Orcollo has since picked up a sponsorship with Tiger and was using one at the US Open.

    Great story on Orcollo ...

Here is a great article by ESPN on Orcollo. After watching that unbelievable final with SVB, I thought this would be good to share with anyone that is unfamiliar with Dennis' background. It is amazing to me the life these Filipino players came up from to get to where they are today. This...

    Shane Has Won World Titles

    Very well said!

Pro 9-ball is a breaking contest.

I agree with everything. And I think this format would allow opponents to have equal time at the table. And the guy with the big gun break is still going to be able to leverage that as an advantage ... rightfully so.

Pro 9-ball is a breaking contest.

Respectfully to your comment, "But here's one big difference. In tennis the serve is huge, yes. But in pool, a lot of times, among pros, the rest of the rack after the break is just a formality. OK, occasionally they miss and get out of line, but for the most part, if there is a ball down and a...

Pro 9-ball is a breaking contest.

I totally agree with this. I played D1 tennis is college. This argument about breaking is an age old argument about serving in tennis going back to the 70s. And 9-ball is like Wimbledon ... whenever someone with a monster serve is around (like Roscoe, Krajicek, Ivanisevic, Sampras, etc)...

The first ever three peat of the US Open

What a match. And what a way to end the match ... jump shot, then a tight cut with a breakout using a bridge. There were so many great shots by both guys with the pressure on.
  14. G

Did you guys just see that jump by SVB? !!!

Two bridges, one on top of the other, and then a jump cue on top of that contraption to sink the two ball. I have never even heard of that.

    Shane's racking "trick"

I find Feijen's comment, "whoever knows the tricks/cheats gets the edge" implies that Shane is cheating. If find this statement very unprofessional to come from a world champion. He is entitled to his opinion (and I actually agree with some of them). But to call out a fellow player for...

Meucci Cue are the best cues ever made.

There was a time when this was an opinion shared by many ... including me. I played with a Meucci in the late 80s and 90s. The quality then was superb and it the quality of that cue today is still great. Today, I have two Schons now fitted with OB shafts. And my next cue will likely be an...

OB Cues where do you rate them?

I have been playing for almost 30 years. Early on, I was taught by an old guy that had a real Balabushka and I got to play quite a bit on it. When I got competitive, I played with Meucci when they were hot (some might not remember when all the big guys were using them ... Earl, Efren, Rempe...

TAR Matches You'd Like to See

10 foot matchup Something different ... I would like to see Earl or Shane on a 10 foot table 10 ball against one of the top flight snooker guys (e.g. Ronnie Sullivan). In these conditions, long shots and neutralized break, I think the snooker guys will be really tough.

    J&J America Experiences

They are legit. I bought a Schon LTD from them. They always answer the phone and provide quick replies to every email. They shipped right away and product was packed with care. I would not hesitate to buy from them again.

    Schon Stl4 with OB1 shaft.

I think I am in a good position to give you an opinion. I have two Schons (STL3 and a Limited) and I have the OB1, OB2, and OB Break shafts in addition to the stock Schon shafts. As I am sure you have read, a Schon cue has some of the highest craftsmanship you will ever experience on a...
