    Very Deceiving Shot

Missing bread and butter shots like this is most commonly associated with approaching the shot wrong. I have a recent thread on how to approach shots correctly that could be of some use if you want to dig it out. Many players on these types of shots let the desired pocket dictate how they...

Experiments in looking at the cueball while delivering the stroke.

Problem is, that when you focus and only look at the cue ball last, your eyes lose track of where the line of aim is, even more so on longer distances between both balls. So you might be dialed into hit where you're looking on the cue ball, but you dont deliver directly straight through the cue...

    John Barton's exercise routine video

Last time I worked up a sweat on a pool table was when I put a 6 inch slice in the cloth of my dad's table when I was about 10. I ran around that table so quick he gave up after a few minutes. I admire that you're putting out content to get pool seen by newcomers, but for us that are already...

Examples Of How I Hose Up Racks

Straight in, off straight, on the rail or off the rail....that 1 ball is a routine shot that wouldn't cause an issue to 90%of the guys I play with. If, as you say it's not a routine shot why beat yourself up?

Examples Of How I Hose Up Racks

There is no right or wrong way to play the shots, everyone has there preference, so you can't say someone is "seriously wrong" on the matter. All I know is my run out game is up there with anyone's, and my break building in snooker is too. The major reason why is how I plan racks out.

Impossible, there is a mile long cue to get into John's bad habit locker.

Examples Of How I Hose Up Racks

4.25 inch pockets are plenty big enough, so stop mentioning it. It's starting to sound like you're blaming the smaller pockets. First thing I've noticed from the diagrams are the red circles don't give you much margin for error. On the first one it's simple to come up short, which you found...

Lol what the #@%! Have I just watched. What's wrong with going for a run, or a walk with the family? Those ball in hand shots are harder than they look, eh?

Dropping The Sock - Keeping Connected

Having the arm too close to the torso, in particular the upper arm, can tend to create a side arm technique which in turn produces an arc in the cue action. I have always taught people to concentrate on getting the shoulder and elbow above the cue at all times then the hand automatically is...

    Giving advice on shot speed

Preparation is better than trying to explain it in a timeout, definitely. The problem with placing the stickers to cater to their 1234...etc shot speeds is that they're aren't up to a standard yet of having a firm grasp of shot speed so they will be all over the place and often you will find...

    Extremely Important Shot

In reality? They're rare, but I do get them. Or it could be that I'm not actually perfectly stunning the white and it may have a little follow or draw. Have any tests been done on kicks for high vs low kicks? Every time I miss the pot due to a kick it's because I've hit it with draw. Every...

    Giving advice on shot speed

Honestly I would either choose to stick with the number method with their levels, or simply stick to describing the shot to them, where to hit and follow it with something like "hit it hard enough to come into this rail and roll out to around here for your shot on this ball". A great little...

    Extremely Important Shot

I agree completely with your analysis but my view on why this happens differs. I've noticed that when I get a kick whilst using a high cue ball the vast majority of the time the cue ball hops. When using a low cue ball and I get a kick the object ball hops (although the cue ball doesn't hop...

Playing the Cue Ball Safe When Shooting the 8

The opponents layout dictates my thought process on the 8,unless it's a hanger I haven't missed in years. Other than that I always try leave the cue ball safe. It's ingrained in me that I rarely think about it now. Some situations force you to just think eff it and just go for the pot. But...

    Extremely Important Shot

The red and yellow dots are too close to the side pockets. You will scratch more often than is acceptable trying to land on those dots. If I'm shooting these shots I opt for a longer pot on the 2,but make sure of missing the side by at least a diamond and end up further up table. If you mean...

At what speed is "if it ain't broke don't fix it"?

It depends on what heights you want your game to reach, then. If you want to reach the highest APA rank for your specified game, then your fundamentals don't have to be that good. In games such as 8 ball tactics play a big part and as such, a set amount of time should be spent on actually...

At what speed is "if it ain't broke don't fix it"?

I've played snooker to the highest standard and I play half decent rotation now a days and I've never been happy with my fundamentals. No body has perfect fundamentals, so there are always improvements to be made. The day I stop trying to improve is the day I hang the cues up.
