How does a shorter tip after cueing? Do you cut your tip short after installation?

I play with elks and cut them right down before I put them on. They're too soft for me otherwise. I cut maybe 2/3 of the tip off. Such a waste :-) I like having less than 2mm of tip at the sides... I dunno why.

    Gradual Acceleration

People seem to think pool is a power game... It couldn't be further from the truth. The break for example... Especially svb in 10 ball... He taps it but generates a great spread because his break technique is ridiculous. It's a game of technique, especially with the inventions of lighting fast...

    Gradual Acceleration

Perhaps I didn't explain very well... It was quite late when I wrote the op. Focusing on starting the cue very slowly for the first inch, maybe less if you have a short bridge takes lots, and I mean lots of practice. I originally started with it to recreate Hendry's shot as a child, but I...

    Gradual Acceleration

I remember as a kid watching Hendry play in the World Champs and one shot stuck in my mind. He hit a deep deepened screw shot and it looked like he hardly hit it. The cue ball paused, then took off like Usain Bolt. I couldn't get that much action hitting it as hard as I could let alone by...

JB vs Lou - Let's Get It On

10 ahead isn't too bad when you consider yourself to be much much better than you actually are and are the most under rated player on the forum. Which reminds me, I could eat some chicken wings.

Using Ghost Ball Contact Patch to understand aiming geometry

I saw a guy the other night lining up a severe cut back into a being pocket. He was standing behind the shot eyeing it up then he got right up close and fingered his chalk, then made a smudge on the table of where the ghost ball centre should be. It reminded me of this thread for what ever...

    Why You Miss

You've tried too hard to read what I posted. I mentioned about the players who use aiming systems in snooker being bad players. I've never come across anyone who claims to use some aiming system in snooker that has beaten me. I know plenty of instructors just on this site that promote...

    Why You Miss

Tor Lowry hit the nail on the head when he said pool players learned the game by simply trying to pot balls. This is why aiming systems are so in demand in pool. Sloppy fundamentals are OK as long as you are using the aiming system of the moment. I've never once been taught an aiming system in...

Need help with 3 rails w/high inside

How hard you hit this shot has a big effect on the outcome. On the super fast tables the pros use they hardly have to hit the ball, meaning the topspin takes sooner making it hit the short rail where it does. Try hitting it softer.

Ghostball & Open Table Runout pictures

7 in the corner, 5 in the same corner, 2 in the bottom side, 4 in the side, 3 in the top right corner, 6 in the same, 1 in the black corner. Once you get on the 4 the cue balls movement is minimal, which is what you want to do to be successful in 8 ball. One thing I do is divide the...

help support my go fund me campaign for pool instruction

This entire thread made me LOL. Why wouldn't the money just be used to send the kid to Mark Wilson's class, instead of the OP going and giving this poor kid some shady second hand advice? Then the British spelling... LOL. If the OP is in Britain then I have a list of instructors that would...

    hopping cue ball

Depends on how bad the balls are. It will help you lessen the effect definitely on a majority of shots but it adds other complications, like missing a lot of pots due to miscalculations using the English. First I would just give the balls a visual check for differences in size...

    $20,000 Challenge to Lou Figueroa.

This is reason enough to log on to AZ every day for the next few weeks. Thanks for the thread, John. That said, I can't see Lou losing.

He's doing it to boost his ego. With some added trolling no doubt.

My first progress video; feedback and advice is welcome

I've seen better cue actions after a few weeks, but they might look good but aren't very practical. His is quite practical and he can get enough spin on the ball which is why I have doubts. But you never know. Maybe he just wants a lot of good feedback and hence why he shortened the time scale.

My first progress video; feedback and advice is welcome

I don't think you've only been playing 3 months. You may have not been playing long but much longer than 3 months. So here is some advice I hope you don't take offense to as it could really help you out. First, you move a hell of a lot during your shots. Starting with the head. Focus...

    Controllable Eye Dominance

Eye dominance doesn't matter for some. Like me, it doesn't seem to help if I have my dominant left eye over the cue, or sighting with it above the line of aim. I sight with the imaginary line of aim going directly through the centre of my eyes, and cue with the cue in the same position...

    In The Lead vs Behind

When do you play at your best? When you have a huge lead, when you have a narrow lead, when you are slightly behind or when you are way behind. I don't mean when do you win the most, everyone's answer would be when they have a huge lead, but when do you play at you're very best. I play at...

Some Of the Worst Advice Given On AZB

Don't have sex for a week before a match. I play league once a week, have done for the past 10 years. Weirdly enough, my wife and Derek have gotten awfully close in the last 10 years.
