Advice on max. table size for room...

Another thing I could do... ...since the room adjoining the basement is unfinished, is to notch out sort of like a "pass-through" in the drywall so the cues would not run into it. The stub cue (we used to call these "pygmy sticks" but I suspect that's not appropriate today, kinda like an...

    billiard embarrasing stories

The year was 1974... ...in Fred's Cafe, Claire City, South Dakota. I was living in the back room there at the time (a 14-year-old's dream!!!) and the restaurant was equipped with a bar box. I was practicing a masse shot... no one but myself witnessed the slight excess of follow-through...

Advice on max. table size for room...

Where in Sumas do they have a big table? (Or *anything* that isn't boarded-up?)... I'm curious.

Advice on max. table size for room...

Thank you for the great responses so far. It sounds like it is indeed worth the occasional minor inconvenience to use a stub cue on a nine-footer as opposed to having a shorter table... Thanks again. Still open to suggestions (short of knocking out a wall!)... -Measly

Advice on max. table size for room...

Howdy- I really could use some advice on the maximum size of pool table I can fit in my basement. The usable dimensions are 17.83 feet X 15.20 feet (17'10" X 15' 2-1/2" for the non-surveyors :D). I thought I had 18 feet in the long dimension but unfortunately I am two inches short of such, but...

Golden Fleece Billiards, Kenmore, WA: Exemplary!

7804 Northeast Bothell Way, Kenmore, WA 98028-3553 (206) 941-7531* * I Googled this; I do question the number as it should be a 425 area code there... If you know where Kenmore Lanes is, turn at the new signal which takes you to the bowling alley. There's a sorta strip mall about 200 feet east...

Golden Fleece Billiards, Kenmore, WA: Exemplary!

That is one pool hall I really wish I could have experienced but for some reason I never tended to go downtown too much. IIRC it got its name from the address, 211 Union (?) I do recall the Ball-n-Rack (never played there- too expensive for me at the time) and Bill's Billiards up near 185th and...

Play Your Best Straight Pool - Phil Capelle

I hope it hasn't gone out-of-print; it is a great book IMO. Mine (which I bought about nine years ago) appears to have been autographed by the man himself... Is Billiards Press out of stock, too?

Golden Fleece Billiards, Kenmore, WA: Exemplary!

I would love to see them open a second location up north, somewhere around Bellingham or even the Burlington/Mount Vernon area would be great. There just isn't anything decent that I know of north of Golden Fleece... Reckon I'll just have to drive south more often.

Golden Fleece Billiards, Kenmore, WA: Exemplary!

Today I drove about 100 miles south and paid a visit to my brother and afterwards decided to stop in at Golden Fleece Billiards in Kenmore, Washington. Since I'm considering the possibility of purchasing a Diamond nine-footer for my house I thought it would be worthwhile to check 'em out there...

Do you use a special coin to "flip" for Break ?

Thank you for the warning against using my one-ouncer as a flipper- the last thing I need to do is gain the nickname of "Shreds" from doing so :D ...should work for a good marker, though. Yeah, I knew that '64 was the last year for the "good" coins but I didn't know what its current value was...

Do you use a special coin to "flip" for Break ?

Hmmm... never even thought of using a dedicated coin for the purpose. I usually just use the first nickel, dime or quarter that I extract from my pocket. But maybe I'll start using that 1964 quarter I received in my change a couple of weeks ago (noticed it by the unique sound which I haven't...

4 inch pockets are not terrible.

I find this thread to be very interesting reading- mainly because I'm looking at purchasing a table for my house in the near future and I am debating within, which pocket size to specify. I must also add that this board is a veritable gold mine of information!

    Eyeglasses: Transitional lenses?

I've had Photo-Gray photochromic lenses for over 10 years now and they have no adverse effect. As for bifocals, I can only get the 'step' kind because of my prescription but they don't bother me, either. I do suppose if a pool table is rather dimly lighted there may be slightly fewer lumens...
