Should pool leagues have a Senior League?

Nothing stopping anyone from forming their own league. One billiard group I play with is a Meet Up group...Age 60 and over. We play tuesday afternoons (pre Covid). Maybe 50 participants or so. Pool hall to ourselves. No music blaring. No TVs on. Everyone has a great time. Another Meet Up...

What is the reason behind your collection?

I’ve used the same cue for snooker and pool for 14 years. Good for another 14. However, my reason is opportunity. Local thrift store sells cues for a $7. Could be a $10 or $1000 cue. Ball sets for $10. Cases for $5. Can’t pass up on them, After 20 or so cues I guess it’s a ‘collection’. My...

When did the home table become popular?

The only reason I got in a band at age 16 in 1970 was because I owned an electric guitar. I could almost play a C chord...the fingers go...where? I still collect Fenders.

What color set of pool balls is best?

99.9999 of ball sets aren’t used for tv ( a low estimate). What shows up or not on tv has no impact on what ball set I use on my home table or in the pool hall. American ‘pro’ pool is almost irrelevant to the sport. Millions play and couldn’t name a pro player and never watch American pool on...

What color set of pool balls is best?

A regular set. Also, the more common, the more likely the balls are better Quality. Specialized runs of can anything be risky. Thus why It’s hard to beat a Toyota Corolla for quality In cars and can’t beat standard Aramiths In billiard balls. Bigger issue is cloth colour. I haven’t played on...

    Elbow drop

If I am then it’s a stroke that works. This is standard snooker follow through. Head still, keep down until ball stop moving...becomes instinct.

    Elbow drop

I’m never sure of stroke type or names. I use a standard Snooker stroke. I don’t believe I drop my elbow however I never think about it. What I do, however, is make sure I follow through the cueball and the tip of the cue finishes on or an inch or so above the cloth. This prevents or at least...

Earl and Ronnie - 96 Mosconi Cup

Neither could make it through Q school qualifiers and elevated into the top 128 rankings. Even the top German Snooker players are only ranked in the 90’s. The best American style pool men’s players will likely be Increasingly lured over more to Chinese 8 ball as cash prizes increase.

Earl and Ronnie - 96 Mosconi Cup

Ronnie Talks about it. He hadn’t played the game previously and says he forgot the rules a couple of times. Today, 24 years later, playing in the final against Mark Selby in The Scottish open. I ruled him out 2 years ago, then he proved me wrong by winning another World Championship.

    A word about learning sidespin

Ronnie OSullivan puts spin on 100% of shots. Never as in ‘never’ hits centre ball. I’m more like most snooker players...use spin 85% or so of shots. The most basic differential calculus would show that there is infinite odds against both the object ball and cueball landing exactly in the...

    Ronnie O'Sullivan up next live

Ronnie shoots left and right. Same With the top Woman Snooker player, Reanne Evans. Ronnie can make a century using either hand... 98% of players have never made a century. I’ve made 6 in 52 years....just over 1 per decade.

you found 5 grand could only spend on a cue or cues ,what would the pick be ?

My current Riley ‘Steve Davis’ Snooker cue. Bought it at a thrift store for likely $5 or so...14 years ago. Plays as good as ever. so..$5. The rest goes to the SPCA I’m not a fan the girly cues with ornamentation but each to their own. Some folks like the man in black, Johnny Cash...others...

    New cloth and bumpers price

Get the cloth you want. The difference in price isn’t enough to make you regret it every time you play. However choose for playability and not durability. You don’t need top notch cloth on a home table...doubly so if no kids playing on it etc. A decent cloth kept clean should last you through...

When did the home table become popular?

1967. The year before I ever picked up a snooker cue. If only I had one of these...I’d have got a jump start and become world champion...maybe. Those happy kids! My brothers and I would have been poking each other with the sharp end of the sick.

When did the home table become popular?

I’m 66. Before my early 20s I had never seen a billiard table in a house. In contrast, today I have a 12 foot snooker table and the 9 foot American style pool table that I can access any time..even in by pajamas. I might play 15 minutes or an hour...and play a variety of made up games...

A Powerful Mental Attitude in Pool - Accepting Defeat

What helps is reminding myself that I’m not a professional player. I play because I enjoy billiards. I like to do my best. One time in high school I competed in our provincial judo championships and made it to the national finals. Where, I lost 9 out of 10 matches. I was ready to quit as I was...

How to use social media to support pool in the mainstream

It’s always baffling me how the same folks who revel in these movies then wonder why American Pool is dead at the pro level. I’d much rather my grandkids have healthy, fitness oriented role Models than scotch guzzling con artists who likely couldn’t run a half mile by age 50 without keeling over.

    Ronnie O'Sullivan up next live

Ronnie, Mark Williams still playing and in the same session. A couple seasons back never would have thought either of them would still be in the Top 16 ranking. Also, good to see Dominic Dale still playing. Like Hawkins, a true sportsman.

    For Tor Lowry fans

I can’t comment on that set but always like the Tor Lowry videos on YouTube: short and a specific point. I like Tor’s first hand experience.Similar with the CJ Wiley short clips. My least favourite videos are the ‘12 Shots that....blah, blah.’ After shot number 3...although a geophysicist...
