Did I make a bad call as Tournament Director?

lol. Both parties described it as a scratch. Bob: I scratched on the 4. Vic: No, he scratched on the 8! No, he made the 8! That's about as detailed as the description was at the time.

Did I make a bad call as Tournament Director?

There is also a reason as to why Vic immediately went to gather balls, and pull all the balls out of the return, when the race to 2 should be over: We have a promo that when you get knocked out you get ONE chance at a break and run prize. ERO the table, and the venue will give you a $25 bar...

Did I make a bad call as Tournament Director?

UPDATE: I may have made a terrible call. I am good friends with a person Vic explained the situation to after he left, and this friend has clarified the situation, as Vic sees it. Vic's CLARIFIED version: Bob runs the table to the ball before the 8, the 4. While potting the 4, bob crashes into...

Did I make a bad call as Tournament Director?

"Call shot" is for anything less than obvious, "obvious" being a straight in shot with no bank/kick/carom etc. component. The only time I'll call a straight in shot is if it's a difficult cut, but I don't think it's strictly necessary.

Did I make a bad call as Tournament Director?

Yes. Low stakes and very not worth getting worked up about. My main concern is my reputation which is, to me, priceless. Absolutely, but I also knew that Bob would be 100% ok with preserving the integrity of the game. It's why I erred in favor of the side that was screwing him. Yes. It even...

Did I make a bad call as Tournament Director?

What if by some miracle Vic's account was true? Bob 100% believed that he was shooting the 4, and playing position on the 8, but who here hasn't had a truly epic brain fart? It's not inconceivable that he was mistaken. If this did happen to be the case it would be most unjust to punish Vic for...

Did I make a bad call as Tournament Director?

Yes. The set is old, grimey, and the 4 is very dark. More so than a regular 4 ball, enough that it is remarkable.

Did I make a bad call as Tournament Director?

According to vic, the 8 was potted on the attempt, and the cueball scratched on that shot. That's a loss. Edit: This was tournament, not league. VNEA is the ruleset we use.

8 foot valleys with open sides for ball retrieval.

Did I make a bad call as Tournament Director?

I intentionally left this out so as to not flavor the responses in this thread. Everyone should have figured out it was Vic. After I bent over backwards to give him the benefit of the doubt and replay the game. Of course it had to be the 4 ball. Nothing else makes sense. Bob was so pissed at...

Did I make a bad call as Tournament Director?

Pulled in the balls as you would to rack a new game. Not done in anger or frustration as far as I could tell. I believe he used his cue to do this.

Did I make a bad call as Tournament Director?

Here's a situation that came up tonight. One of the players is trashing me on social media as being biased, and I don't think it's deserved. Situation: Vic and Bob are in a vnea 8-ball race to 2. Vic is up 1-0, and the second game has a mishap at the end. There is some arguing and confusion...

    Masters, triangle chalk becoming outdated

I'm pretty sure there's been exactly zero people here that have claimed it makes them better players. We use it because it's massively less messy, while being as good as or better than Master at being chalk. The end. Good luck fighting those windmills though.

Where do you break from for 8 ball?

Depends on the rack. Dead tight = down the pipe. Anything else = 2nd ball.

    Best template rack?

Don't even bother. I have a pack of colored sharpies and I was able to perfectly color the white donuts to match my cloth. They are all but invisible. Someone else asked about roll-off, and it's a non-issue. I play 95% straight pool with a lot of slow rolling through the rack area, and can...

Best value billiard balls (Aramith Regulation Size Crown Standard)?

The centennials I had caught skids 5-10x as often as the cyclop/dynashere balls I used before/after them, no exaggeration. Granted, the centennials were used, so it's possible they had some sort of abuse that affected their surface, but I polished them in a Diamond cleaner with aramith paste...

Best value billiard balls (Aramith Regulation Size Crown Standard)?

When I first got my table I REALLY wanted Centennials, but couldn't afford them, so found a good deal on Cyclop skittles balls and got them instead. After 4 or 5 years I got a good set of Centennials used, and sold the cyclop balls before I had a chance to use the Brunswicks. Big mistake. The...

Rexus posted a pic of the Bronze set above. You don't get more "classic" than that. Bog standard old-timey colors.
