any of you have names for your cues?

I have two old cues that look and play better than I do. One is a Dufferin High Run one-piece four point cue I bought at a thrift shop for $2.00. I refinished it and installed a new tip and ferrule,.I call it "Two Buck Chuck." I bought a 1980s National (China) cue with a nice case for $8.00...

    Cue advice

Put Elk Master tips on the Dufferins, and enjoy them. You can pay a lot of money for fancier cues, but better playing cues will be hard to find. Rick

Teaching a Newbie to stay down

Hi - I'm a newbie. I'm trying. To help stay down, I adopted S.A.D. as part of my routine. "S" is for "Set" to get a firm stance. "A" is for "Aim". "D" is for "Down". It helps me, but I seem to not have the discipline I would like to have. And I practice Dr. Dave's drill before shooting...

    Age? Butchered Cue Lives Again

Mr. Bond - Thank you for your generous offer. I am honored, but I think I'll keep it for awhile. About a year ago, I bought a beat-up Dufferin one piece, four prong house cue from our local SPCA thrift store for $2. It was filthy. I washed it on our front lawn with Dawn dishwashing soap...

    Age? Butchered Cue Lives Again

Rob - Yes, Fred might not have been pleased, Hoping someone will tell me when this cue was first sold in the US. I suspect it sold for $10-15 in the early 1950s. After spending time restoring it, I suspect it is now worth $10-15 again. Rick ---------- > Freeeeed is going to be pissed!!!...

    Age? Butchered Cue Lives Again

This old Brunswick came out of a storage room at the assisted living center where I play. I had never seen such a beat-up cue. I felt a challenge to give it a new life. Fred, the apparent owner, modified the cue so the short steel rod slid forward into 1"+ of compressed foam when shooting...

    Rubber Table Leveling Shims

Hi - A local billiards company renovated an 18-20 year old 4' x 8' Olhausen table at the assisted living center where I play. New cloth, rails, and leather drop pockets, but the table was not level when the crew was done. They came back a week later but still did not level the table. I...

    Puckered Thread

Hi - New cloth, cushions, and pockets were installed yesterday. Everything looks good except for one spot that has a small snag in the cloth. What is the best way to minimize the snag and its effect on playing? Thank you. Rick

    Toothpick

Prad et al - Thank you for your comments. As I try to develop a "finesse" style, I am working on fundamentals every time I play. Cue weight, balance, diameter, tip type, etc., are just part of experiencing options available to us all. Pool is about having fun, and this has turned into a...

    Toothpick

Experienced players - A surgeon does not use a Bowie knife for fine work, so I have been wondering why I have been using what feels like a baseball bat to play pool. Most cue shafts I have average 12.5 +/- mm in diameter with ferrules 3/4-1" long. I am not a banger and am trying to develop a...

    Jacoby Shaft Adjusting Tool

Hi - I saw this on Ebay and You Tube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Q7Mqm7uXrI I think I understand the principle, but I am wondering why one could not just as well use a beer bottle or other smooth object instead of the metal tool. I would appreciate comments from anyone who has used this...

    Machine vs Hand Cleaning

Guys - A few days ago, I wrote, "...the motor burned up before I shut it off...So now I get to buy another buffer and try again." Since then I bought a Harbor Freight buffer on sale for $16 with a 90 day warranty. It was too big for the five gallon bucket, so I had to modify the bucket. It...
