    Guidance needed on repair pricing

I started to break it down by component...and the cost was racking up fast. I agree...working for free helps no one...and to be honest, if you abuse your stick, repairs should be costly. I work for free no more...been there, done that.

    Guidance needed on repair pricing

So...everyone here has been candid and honest...so I figured I would request some thoughts on pricing. I was brought an old Palmer cue, probably mid 70's, mop inlays, window with guys name behind it...and it was in pieces. I was told to fix it. With that, I put on new ebony forearm, with...

    Calling it Ebony?

Feedback I greatly appreciate everyone's feedback and input. You guys are right...it really isn't and inlay, and it really isn't ebony. Many have suggested just biting the bullet, and cut the part to go I the pocket...and make it a true ebony inlay. To be honest, I agree that is the best way...

    Calling it Ebony?

So....I realize there are lots of accomplished and experienced cue makers here...and I have a question for you. If you take ebony dust (after cutting or routing), and mix it with epoxy to fill in small dashes, diamond patterns, and the like...are you allowed to still call them ebony inlays...

    Clear Coat about ready

Count me I I am about as clear coat challenged as they come...and so far everything I have received from Tom has been great....count me in for a pint or 2 when it is ready

    Joss cue

This looks like an older joss cue to me...just by the block lettering, no bridge logo, and no serial joint. Also considering the large white butt cap. The rubber bumper looks brown...which might also signify it is well aged. Most joss cues in the late 80's and through 90's had a smaller butt...

I want to bid a loving and heartfelt farewell to my close friend, mentor, and teacher...Phil Boucher. Phil...former Marine, Butte Boy to the core, and an absolute pool fanatic, spent his last few days reading pool magazines and watching pool videos we sent him in a care package. Phil took me...

    Will Diamonds replace Valleys?

I agree with many that Diamond tables probably won't replace Valley tables...mostly because Valley tables are provided and distributed by vendors. However, the lucky players have diamonds to shoot on...they are much nice to play, and quite frankly...if you are tuned in to a diamond...every...

    wing cutters are fast

Router bits and fingers Those thumbs bleed like crazy too!! I have only been making cues for about 2 years...and I have always been very careful..until I got very comfy around my lathe. Then one night, I was running a final pass on the butt of a jump cue found my thumb shucked into my router...

    Leather wrap seem cutting

That is the way I do it. On me template/straight edge that I use...I had the edge ground to a 15 degree angle, so my knife could just follow the angle. It is important to say that a, b, c, or d could work...each would just take a bit of getting used to..and everyone has a method and a preference.

    Leather wrap seem cutting

Because of the cue being round, the b cut I'll actually leave you at higher risk for a gap if not cut to just the right size...leaving you to try and stretch the leather to close the seam. A is better to reduce this risk. However, the best cut in my opinion is one where both cuts have some...

    Screw-on ferrule?

Before you can drill and put a wood tenon in the shaft...you are gonna have to remove any pieces of the screw that are still n the shaft...of course you may be able to drill it out if it is truly aluminum and you chuck it up well.

How to replace a Stainless steel collar

I am not expert...but the approach to the repair would depend on what you have left to work with. If just the collar came off...you may be able to just replace the pin and put on a new collar (threaded on I am assuming). You may not have to replace the pin..but I would...just to make sure...

    Finally finished my first cue

Nice job on the cue and the design. Plain Jane or not...you selected great woods that compliment each other and look great. Much like everyone else has already commented....get ready for a long journey of endless wood stock, the never ending search for remarkable woods, and as always...the...

    Piloted joint ?

I think the pilot concept is sound...as a method to provide more surface area at the joint for strength, feel, etc... It is true that most inserts don't fit tight...depleting this concept. I think one if the best joint designs ever is the Schuler joint...they took this pilot and interlocking...

    Opinions welcome

I think you are gonna be very happy with this...I know I tweaked the design a bit...but have had nothing but great feedback from everyone that have seen it. I even test hit it before the clear coat...no funny vibrations, very solid, and provides a good response.
