Fix threads, or replace the pin?

Jeez, please disregard. :embarrassed2: A little soap on the threads did wonders. Until yesterday, I hadn't kept bar soap around the house, only liquids. Current events forced me to buy some. Thanks Michael for your help.

Fix threads, or replace the pin?

Thanks. The Joss pin is indeed about .312". The lower pin in my photo is Schon, and it's about .305". Both of the shaft joint inserts are brass.

Fix threads, or replace the pin?

I bought a Joss a few months ago. My daily SS360 shaft which fits fine on my Schon and other 5/16-14s, was difficult to thread on to this Joss. Not bad, about as snug as a United joint, I guess. But that's an older shaft, I bought it used, so I expect any clearancing / wearing-in was already...

Possible to make a Triangle tip softer?

Not a great hardness comparison, but when I was playing WBs I found that picking them deeply would get them almost perfect with respect to feel, grip, and zero miscuing. As expected I had to work the sides often since that much picking there was mushrooming, and they'd also would wear out...

Coronavirus and BCA Pool League World Championships

Panic buying can most definitely be seen at Costco. Yesterday (Friday) was busy like Christmas, but wider eyes and a lot less smiling. People worried about shortages, create shortages. What I really don't understand is the TP hoarding.

    The Lag

In case you have the ear of your TD, maybe something to suggest to him: A tournament I frequent had the rule simply, "flip or lag," but occasionally an APA player would pop in. Most of the tournament regulars preferred to flip, maybe since they didn't have regular opportunity to practice lag...

Most Economical Way To Mail A Stick?

I've received more of those triangular USPS boxes than I've shipped, but not one has ever come without some amount of creasing. Never had any damage, but most have come with a tube inside, thankfully. Those triangular boxes definitely don't hold their shape. Not to argue with those who...

    Trouble Breaking 9-ball (Slug Racks)

+1 for Outsville. Or Turtle Rack. I've seen worn out magic racks. Turning the turtle around 180* helps, but I don't know if that works with others, depending on the angle of the diamond-shaped holes. Assuming you mean, brand name Magic? Avoid knockoff magic racks. Especially the...

Anyone recognize this tip, hard elkmaster ?

Schmelke's 'milk dud' they put on standard is softer than other duds. To me, just a little harder than a plain Elkmaster. They don't advertise on their site, but they'll sell them to you, just call them.

Gold Crowns and the term Diamonized

Absolutely. I wouldn't recommend it. I only went down this road (extending was a lot of work!) because ~4" pockets at local places (one table 3 7/8" even), when I had to play a match on those, it really got in my head. Too many years on bar tables, I had a pretty sloppy stroke. I did this...

Gold Crowns and the term Diamonized

I split my time between a) 3 13/16", 141* T-Rail home table, Superspeed b) 4" 141* GCs, Artemis (measured these when I was extending my home table, so I'm sure) c) 4 1/4" GCs that I'm pretty sure Ernesto did. (didn't measure angles, but just eyeballing, they do look more parallel). Opinions...

    Case issue need advice. Thanks

Used these in a Justis case. I didn't like that sound when my cue dropped on that hard surface inside. These made it springy. https://www.amazon.com/Rehabilitation-Advantage-Tubing-Support-Utensils/dp/B07DGMXTXP/

What can i clean Simonis 860 cloth with

^^ Agree. Test first to ensure it's not dribbly. I ended up with a stain, my eyes would go right to it. Rrrrr.

What can i clean Simonis 860 cloth with

If the installer used plaster to level the slate seams, I'd avoid using a strong vacuum across them. The brush attachment might be a better choice in that area. If the seams were leveled with wax or Bondo, no issue.

Is there a way to estimate your APA skill level

We're all cranksters? No, not saying tour anything. Just saying what I see here. Maybe it's because this region plays only on 9-foot tables, and that somehow tends to lower the average SL rating relative to actual skill? I played regionals few times against folks from SF, Sacramento...

Is there a way to estimate your APA skill level

If you can, reasonably consistently, pocket 5 balls in a turn, you're a SL5. If you regularly run-out an 8-ball rack, you're a SL7, or a 9-ball rack, SL9. Simplified, but in my experience it has actually has been a decent method of estimation, at least here in my region. ----- brace...

    Vegan Tip Option

The few of us who played non-predator cues joked when the Revo first started showing up, it was made from "100% pure kool-aid." Everything just a matter of perspective, I guess. Even here in the Bay Area, believe it or not, there are still very few vegans around.

    Wanted: Broken Schon shaft

Broken, or otherwise ruined. Just the joint needs to be decent. Silver ring, usual Schon pilot, their standard ~.8415" joint diameter. Stitch ring is fine too, if that's all I can find. I just need the joint to be in decent condition - threads, pilot, face. Will be refinished and re-faced...

    WTB: Schon STL-1 Tulipwood

Looking for a Schon STL-1 Tulipwood. Used okay, even a little beat up. Just needs to be straight, with a good pin. I don't need a shaft. Thanks for looking.
