The best lasting/looking product would be a conversion varnish. Just keep in mind the quality of the finish starts with the quality of the prep.

From a material stand point, it is possible to warp. Due to slate being from sedimentary rock it is within the realm of warping. I have had other sedimentary rocks ( tiles ) warp as fast as overnight ( but rare ). I would be more concerned with efflorescence ( leaching of minerals ) than warping.

No you don't want to play the tables on the first floor, riser heights for a commercial bld. are typically 7-1/4" so at 5 treads that would put the 2nd floor 36 1/4" above the first.... tables may fit ( depends on 2nd floor mat.) but there won't be much head room :grin:
