u dont need to spend too much on a beginning cue. just make sure its straight and preferably wood and has a good tip on it. really that's all u need.

yup! More work on the cue ball = less accuracy, unless the position play requires you to come off the rail at a certain angle to play a "small area" shape. But generally in 9 ball with a wide open table, it rarely needs to be done.
