What Is Wrong With These Guys?

50K is not worth the same everywhere. It's about one years worth of salary for a half way decent job here in the US, but could almost be 3-4 times the annual salary of one from Taiwan. Probably many times more for the Philippines. I have casually asked guys to play for a 20 dollar set in Taiwan...

    Pray for Kaohsiung, Taiwan

I've moved to the US for 5 years already, but my parents still live there. However, they are currently here visiting me. Luckily, the explosions happened on the other side of town as well. It's quite a tragedy but good thing there seems to be a lot of support going into the relief program...

Csi invitational ! Congrats ko pin yi and ko ping chung!

There are qualifier events in Taiwan that the players from Taiwan have to play in and place in a certain spot in order to be qualified for the government sponsor. I highly doubt that the US Open is part of the "official" events that the government sponsors. On top of that, there are probably...

COUNTDOWN - 2014 World Teams Championship

Why do some teams have 4 players and some have 5?

Little Ko wins 8-Ball !!! Big KO ripped off, Pool hangs it's head

Sick shot. Wu Yu Lun was definitely known to be one of the best shot makers in the Taiwanese circuit, making all kinds of tough cuts.

    Billy Incardona - Short Rant

Actually, the "Pin" in their name is exactly the same. The only difference in their name is "Yi" and "Chung." I get where you are coming from. I am Taiwanese, but don't find this racist at all and don't really see any bad intentions. I can understand why some would be semi-offended, or annoyed...

SJM's Slant on the CSI 8-ball Scandal

My memories always get clouded when my fellow countrymen loses. It always seems like their opponent played perfect :grin-square:. It seems that he played much better during both his Vegas trips in these past two years. Maybe better food and more mandarin speaking fans has something to do with it.

SJM at the BCAPL/CSI Events: Trip Report

Great coverage. I was there only for the Ko/SVB match and the 10 ball event. There were some great pool being played! For someone for rarely attends these events, this was definitely a treat.

SJM's Slant on the CSI 8-ball Scandal

That's why I said there was wrong on both sides. When I read the thread awhile ago, there were numerous mentions of other countries getting away with it, putting world class (but unknown) players in the open division. Too lazy to dig up the information now.

SJM's Slant on the CSI 8-ball Scandal

The impression I got from the Taiwanese folks was that it was a bad decision, and the way it was handled was definitely not courteous considering that these guys traveled so many miles to play here. I would say they may return if a similar event was held, but next time they will be prepared for...

SJM's Slant on the CSI 8-ball Scandal

I don't believe the Taiwanese players will show up for the US Open since they had just made a long trip to the US, unless there are other events to make the trip worthwhile. However, it would be awesome if all the top Filipinos and Europeans shows up.

SJM's Slant on the CSI 8-ball Scandal

And adding those guys would probably make a different in the outcome . The top players play so closely nowadays that its anyone's game. I know of another good amount of players from Taiwan that play at least even with the bottom portion of the 16 players invited, and I am sure there are...

SJM's Slant on the CSI 8-ball Scandal

Kevin came to stay for a couple months - it wasn't a "team trip" as the Taiwanese have been known to do. Of course, he is a lot more assertive and outgoing than the other Taiwanese players and had more incentive during this stage of his pool career to make a trip like that than the likes of the...

SJM's Slant on the CSI 8-ball Scandal

Honestly, aside from the US Open 10 Ball last year, there isn't any events that are I consider "big American stage." While that field was tough, the prize money was only 15,000. Chang Jung Lin came to the US Open 9 ball two years ago and quietly placed 5th. I believe that was his first time...

SJM's Slant on the CSI 8-ball Scandal

From my impressions based on having spoken to some the Taiwanese players - both in attendance this year and some that weren't.
