    Ferrule cracking diagnosis

The cue I play with has a cracked ferrule for the second time in 2-4 years. I haven't previously had this issue, but I want to know if the failures are something that I'm causing. The ferrules are Juma. I replace my own tips with a Willard tipper, and replace when the tip height (excluding the...

Is JB Cases still in Business?

You can have the pockets made taller- speaking with John recently I asked about this. Pockets are 1.25" by default; I'm having mine made 1.5" instead. If you think about a feature you want, they'll probably figure out how to do it.

9ft table in 14ft wide room

I have a 9' GC3 in a room between 14-14.5 feet wide. My only regret is not getting a Diamond; the 1% of short stroke or jacked up shots I have to take because of the walls doesn't take away from the game.

I don't even know what to say...

My first thought was that a bridge head with a set screw was installed on the shaft.

    Least damaging bridge head

I have a leather bridge head that is ok, but the moose head is a lot better in terms of use at the table. I got one of the cheapest I saw (under $2 I believe) and spent less than 5 minutes sanding all the ridges off. I use my jump cue to put the bridge heads on when I play; its light and the g10...

    Feeling Like Oprah

I had to spread some around once before giving to a member before, so I went in the funny pic thread on page 1 and just went to town. I don't remember hitting a limit then, and I got to rep my original target.

    Playing Safety

This sounds less about safety play and more about the rail-after-contact rule. When it was said that "safety play isn't allowed", I'd guess the type of safety being referred to was the 'roll 6" behind another ball' safety prevalent in bar rule sets.

    Selecting Guest Cues

I have some Players one-piece cues that play ok; as long as they're wood and have decent tips I don't see much room to go wrong. If the guests don't have their own cues, they're likely used to beat up house cues with slip on ferrule/tip combos. Everything is a step up from there!

Drill A Hole Through A Ball

i drilled a couple sets of the mini (1.125) balls on my drill press to use as scoring beads. If you secure a piece of wood on the table and pre-drill a shallow and wide hole to cradle the ball, it's an easy way to center the ball under the chuck. I used high speed and slow feed, and held the...

    Vcash bets

I think I had 500 in vCash that I blew on an Earl match. There's no way I'd manage my vBankroll good enough to not go vBroke. I'm all-in with imaginary money every time.

    TO John Barton

I've been handled by 2 apprentice procrastinators who were supposed to take care of the admin side. I will concede that payment was handled very quickly and efficiently.

    Cues in Cars

I had a Meucci Originals cue that lived in my car full time in SC for a couple years that didn't warp or fall apart, but a friend forgot his Olivier cue for a couple hours in the trunk and the finish bubbled up horribly on the butt sleeve. There's too much uncertainty in wood and construction...

    John Nemic Cues?

John made a custom cue for me and there was absolutely nothing about the transaction, from start to finish, that I would change. His price was more than fair, and the cue I had made plays exactly how it should given the specs I provided.

    Instroke cases

My Instroke case continues to reliably serve me while I wait for the JB leather case I ordered to be done (again). Custom features sometimes lose function in artistic interpretation. Comparing Instroke to the leather JB cases, I have a question about what appears to be a difference in...

    Watching too many pro matches!

I try to ignore the fundamentals, stance, stroke, etc. of the players and just pay attention to position routes. That is a major weakness for me, and watching how it's supposed to be done has helped me. It does matter who I watch though; trying to incorporate 5 rail shape from Earl's power game...

    Cement floor covering help

Carpet stores usually have deals on remnants, and you might be able to score decent used carpet from one of their installers.

SVB v Chinahov. 10 ball to 30 break outside the box.

That would be absurd, and even more so after SVB practiced doing it for 6 months and made it an effective break. I don't want any part of a game against a guy who kick-breaks and consistently makes balls with shape.

    Building a backyard pool room

Don't let a ball return stop you if the table is otherwise acceptable; drop pockets are cheap enough, and your installer might trade you a good set for the ball return setup.

JB vs Lou - Let's Get It On

Too many Johnnys JohnnyT is the fun crotchety older gent whose hustling and greyhound stories you've enjoyed. JohnnyP is... well, I just know he's not the Johnny you're looking for.
