Question about the cue ball frozen to another ball

You misunderstood. It is not a legal shot. If the cue ball is frozen to a legal object ball, you can shoot directly into it with a level stroke and that is a legal stroke. Brian in VA

    Best Accessory Kit

I can't speak to the starter kits very much as I don't know what's in them. I will tell you that a set of balls should last a lifetime on a home table so don't scrimp. I'm a fan of centennials because they just look right to me on my old Anniversary. I recommend a cover for your table no...

What was your first pool hall?

Yep, that's the place. And I don't ever remember it being closed no matter what hour we went past it. I've heard that an awful lot of money changed hands in there over the years. I was never privy to it, unfortunately, as I was too young. There were some guys that played in there every day...

    lessons yes or no

I don't know that instructor. I can tell you that I took my first lesson after about 40 years of playing; not constantly playing but playing at least occasionally. It was the best money I've spent on my game and I've gotten better ever since. If you're willing to work at what you learn...

    Congratulations to George Fels!

I'm getting ready to start a new job on Monday and one of the benefits is traveling to various parts of the country including Chicago. A number of years ago I had a PM thread with George and he graciously offered to play the next time I get up that way. I'm finally going to do be up in his...

    Shelf-life of a cue

Are you saying that the wood that makes up the cue goes through some kind of transformation as a result of age or usage???? I don't think that's possible. There are wooden buildings that are over 1400 years old, still standing and are as sound as the day they were built. Now if you're...

    How good was Keith McCready?

I was sitting nearby and watched in amazement when he missed it. Alex was dumbfounded as well. I recall him breaking and running the next rack before finally missing and Keith was able to run out. Wow! Brian in VA

    Practice stroke speed (and length)

I think the practice stroke is always going to be shorter than the actual stroke because you can't get to a finish position while addressing the cue ball. I have, on the occasion when I was about to make a unique stroke (very soft or something) moved off to the side of the cue ball to...

    BCA vs ACS Vegas dates

FWIW I run a dual sanctioned league. Some of my players enjoy going to ACS nationals and some prefer BCAPL nationals. In other words, they've already been making choices before this about which one to play in. With the back to back scheduling, they may take the option to play in both...

This is for the old guys....

I played for the first time at age 5 and fell in love with the game from the start. I'm 53 although I didn't really play seriously until about 10 or 12 years ago. Finally got a pool table of my own about 4 years ago and it's made all the difference in my game. Having time and place to...

    Ball Return Brunswick Anniversary

I'm looking for information on an Anniversary. I bought it about 3 years ago from a lady in Baltimore who had purchased it 20 years before from a shop that refinished it after pulling it out of a pool room up there. During those transitions before me, the return system disappeared. If I want...

    League bashing

The fact that the CEO of the BCAPL takes the time to read and respond to posts on this forum should tell us how committed the organization is to making sure it's members are satisfied. I'm impressed. Wish others in the pool vendor/providers community at large had this same mentality! Brian in VA

Do online retailers HAVE to sell for advertised price?

As a student of retail for over 30 years, I find the growth of internet commerce over the last 10 or so to be fascinating. Some of the web merchants are working their way through the skeevy practices of traditional retailers from 30 or 40 years ago until customers wise up and stop buying from...
