    differences in Simonis cloth speed

joelpope, Is there a chance that you have 860 and Johnny Archer's room has 860HR? The HR is quite a bit faster than the standard 860. Or so it seems to me. -Howard

    SVB Birthday

Congratulations and Happy Birthday to Shane. He certainly has been on a roll this year. I gave my grandson his first pool table and cue last year, Gary. Maybe one day he'll be the young gun out for Shane's title. Hey, I can dream, right? -Howard

Making GC4 Drop Pockets Fit Better

I'd better start with the disclosure that I am not a table mechanic. But I do have a GC V with the same pockets and the same issue. The two things I have found that can cause this problem are casting shims sticking out (my bad) and the cushion cloth interfering with the pocket liner. The cloth...

Question about cloth and table size

I had 860HR put on my 9-foot Gold Crown last year. Eight months later, I had it replaced with 860. The HR was too fast for my taste. I think it would be a really bad idea on a seven footer. Just my opinion; your mileage may vary.

    New Slate Dolly

I've always avoided one-piece slate because of the difficulty of getting it inside. To get to the door to the pool room, you have to go down 25 steep steps, then across about 80 feet of sloped, uneven ground. Is this dolly capable of that?

    Old TV Shows with Pool

In the late '50s, there was a TV show about a private detective called Peter Gunn. Although the program was mostly known for its great music, the thing I remember about it was scenes in a club called Mothers, where a dwarf (Billy Barty, I think) played pool. He dragged a wooden box around with a...

    Cloth color choice.

When I had my table recovered a couple of months ago, I departed from green cloth for the first time in fifty years. I went with Simonis powder blue, which is a blue-gray color. I didn't want Tourny Blue because it's just too bright. The powder blue has the same "feel" as traditional green...
